Obviously I try reading a lot of blogs to keep up with what is going on in Korea. Since I'm a woman, I like to hear about the unique situations that women face. I was in South Korea to study abroad, but of course working there is different.

But every time I find a new tumblr to read, it makes me question whether or not I'll be able to find any expat women I can relate to. Every single one seems to be about getting wasted on a regular basis, hooking up with random Korean guys, and then wondering why their lives are so full of drama. I don't want to list names, but once you find one you'll find all the rest. Compared to them, I probably come off as a total prude because I don't believe in making out with guys I just met and have no relationship with, let alone bringing them back to my apartment to sleep with.

I'll admit it, I'm a good girl! I don't mind social drinking and dating is fun, but getting hammered every weekend and casual sex is not my idea of a good time.

Am I alone in feeling this way?

Yeah, I figured I would just have to expand my group of Korean girl friends.

For the record, I don't give men a free pass for having casual sex either. Regardless of whether the person is male or female, it's difficult to develop a deeper friendship with someone whose values and viewpoints on relationships are so fundamentally different than your own. They might be nice people, but we'll most likely never be more than just acquaintances.

I'm sorry, but because of my spiritual beliefs casual sex (not sex itself) in my opinion is wrong, and this is coming from a pretty liberal pagan, not a Bible-thumper.

I also didn't say that drinking was wrong, drinking to excess on a regular basis is what I don't like. So please read more carefully before replying.

That being said, I'm not here to get into a debate or to lecture anyone. I'm just stating my honest beliefs and saying that I don't have as much in common with people (women) who have such different values.

Those blogs turn my stomach. Keep in mind that they all feed off each other which is why it seems like there are so many of them. Casual sex is one thing but I remember reading one entry which described what I would define as a rape but the girl writing it was like "lol this guy is so wacky". That kind of thing was the norm. Creepy creepy stuff.

There are women in Korea who aren't like that but they're not so easy to find. Try working in a school with lots of other teachers, then the odds are in your favor.

I've been here for 5 years. I don't keep a blog any more, though I used to for my parents pre-FB.
I do not enjoy getting trashed every weekend, and have enjoyed other pursuits in the last few years.
There are women here, few and far between especially on Dave's ESL. I go on trips with Adventure Korea a lot and have met a lot of single women that way to go on trips with.

Try starting your own circle or any one of the groups that travel together around Korea.

If your thinking most expat women here are rejects from jersey Shore, it's nothing like that....

All the crazy party girls don't come here unless they got the hots for Korean guys.

They're all normal girls these days.

Unless you mean your looking for an older crowd past the drinking phase...

Hope you enjoy the company or Army wives in that case. Executives working here are rare, let alone ones who bring families. I know VERY few.

Before I go, I've been trying to get as much info about clubs and organizations so that I have something to do and so that I can meet more people. I'd really like my second trip to Korea to be better than the first.

I'll get chewed out for this I'm sure, but...

Meeting women these days who aren't into the club thing, jumping up and down to lady blah blah and shouting 'shot shot shot shot shot' is rare.

Back in the 'glory days' when I first came here I'd meet every year or so and usally have an affair and fall in love with the type of woman I'm into; somewhat academic, intellectual, smart, someone you could tell you watched a Fellini film that afternoon and rater than getting arsey because they mistakenly thought you were showing off, would be interested in talking about such things... But at the same time they weren't boring or walking in the social shadows.

That sort are much rarer now, or maybe there is the same ratio of them, but the ammount of the Gen Y 'shot shot shot shot' types have swelled so much that it really is like trying to find a noodle in a haystack.

I've met the type who write the blogs you mention and am pretty sure I know one of the main ones and the drama these girls go through on a daily basis would have most people in a padded rom lol.... Not putting them down, obvously the life they live is what's for them and I'm as bad if not worse than them (I'm a guy.)

I wouldn't say that these blogs represent every woman that lives here in Korea, but they are a majority of the type of woman that is here in Korea, especially in the larger cities like Seoul and Busan. The one thing to remember is that most of these "dating" blogs are written by girls who are in the 21-25 age range which is the time in a lot of people's lives (both men and women) where binge drinking on the weekends, club hopping, sexing up/hooking up with people from clubs, etc. etc. is how they choose to live their life. They would most likely be doing the same thing if they were living in their home country but they just happen to live here in Korea and keep a public blog about their "adventures" and drama.

To be honest I actually feel sorry for most of these bloggers who jump from guy to guy to guy, blogging about their drunken nights, bringing home guys they've known for two hours, blackouts, and more. But, it is their choice to live this way and unfortunately their blogs are popular because of the large number of like-minded people here in Korea and other places who do or want to do the same.

I'm not that much older, but it is definitely not my kind of crowd so I have had to work a bit at finding friends who like doing the things I like doing. I think living in smaller cities help, but believe me there are plenty of other foreigners and Koreans who enjoy more chill times. We are out there, we're just a little more difficult to find

Look. Log off your laptop and get over here and experience the world for yourself rather than reading blogs which are probably hyped up, exaggerated ramblings of attention seekers.

You will find expats here are more or less OK.
