I applied for the visa in June at Suwon immigration office and I thought I would get it by this month. However, when I called the immigration they told me that it takes from 6~10 months for the F5 visa processing these days ... did anyone get the visa in 4 months recently ??

I am not sure of your current status but I switched from F2 to F5 in 12 days at Busan. I have been told that having a Korean child or children speeds up the approval process.

Good luck!

Suwon immi is natorious. Three to six months used to be the norm everywhere. Lately most offices process F-2 to F-5 change of status in one to two months. I'd wait a month and then give a call or stop in to check on the progress. I've heard of a guy that did and they were just sitting on his approved F-5 in a drawer. He walked out with it.

Every immigration office is different. My F-5 only took two or three weeks from the Incheon office.

I applied for F-5-A after I got my F-2-7 visa via the point system. However, I don't think it's processing should be different from normal F-5.
Thanks guys I ll visit immi to check on the progress.

I applied last year in Suwon, and it took 6 months. We didn't have any children when I applied.

I guess the delay has something to do with Suwon Immi... The immigration officer told me that the visa is still under processing and it would be ready by the end of this year....

Seems that every Immigration office takes a different amount of time. Just remember, the time taken is also dependent on another thing. Immigration does a complete background check on you in your home country. They have to wait for the Background check before they issue. If your country drags its feet while processing the Background check, YOU WAIT.

Hope you get it soon. Smile

If someone is married to a Korean and on an F2 visa, what are the requirements to upgrade to the F5?

Be married for two years.

I upgraded to an F5 at the Suwon immigration office, and it took maybe two months.

Can you apply for an F5 visa as soon as you receive an F2 visa? I thought you had to hold an F2 visa for 3 years (when you get it through the point system) before you are able to apply for an F5 visa.

One of the requirements for my F2-99 was having an E2 visa for a period of 5 years.

To apply for the F5 was only 2 additional requirements namely Income and Korean proficiency.

Someone who obtains their F2-99, can apply for the F5 the very same day they receive their F2-99 as they already have the time in country, as was my case.

I waited 2 weeks after receiving my F2-99 before I submitted my F5 (my choice).
