I had an interview with a hakwon and they asked me to send them a video of me teaching. They seemed kind of surprised when I said I didn't have one and asked if I could make one. They said it can be really short. They just want to see me teach. I said ok, but after hanging up realized I don't really know what they want or how to do it. I don't have a teaching job right now, I think they know that. So what can I do? Set up a camera and film myself teaching a lesson to.... no one? Any suggestions? |

5-10 minute demo of a class. Your camera is the class.
You didn't say what ages or levels you need to create the demo for so this is pretty generic:
quick opening (song or other greeting)
introduction of the lesson
teach the vocab / grammar point
drill
activity to reinforce and practice
review
close

Set up your stuffed animals in your bedroom and do it with them.
If you don't have a teaching job or access to a classroom right now, can you setup a camera somewhere that looks like a classroom? I'm sure you have access to a meeting room type area, either at your old university or a community center in your apartment or town. Maybe throw up a white board in the basement and some chairs and have your friends sit in. All you need is a video of you teaching something to anyone for 5 minutes. I don't think anyone will watch it beyond 5 minutes.
Maybe swing by your old highschool and ask your favorite teacher if you can borrow their room for 5 minutes. You don't even need to show students in the video. Just you talking.
They just want a feeling for how you speak and possibly interact with students. |

I did this for an university job.
It was strange because the quality was so bad you could barley here me speak, but I got bored of trying to make it work after 80 mins and sent them an edited version.... you couldn't hear anything.
But as it turns out I got the job with no interview.
They must be keen or they wouldnt ask you for a video.

You got a university job with no interview applying (from overseas?) with this?! @.@
What year was this? Back when Westerners in Korea were a rarity? |

You have been working in the university system in Korean for years now? Maybe it was your verifiable work history that did it. (I thought the competition for university jobs in Korea had increased greatly in the past year or two. That's why I was surprised.) |

Have some fun with them. Send a video with three different clips each 15 seconds long. The first one of a black friend teaching. The second one of you teaching. And the third of a gyopo teaching.
Then don't tell them which one is you when you send it. |
