|
|
I'm in Korea right now and got a bench warming seat offer from a Hagwon chain, offering me what seems like average pay for when an opening might become available. They made it sound like it could happen sometime from within a couple weeks to a couple months, but that it's still no guarantee. I'm cool with it, but their asking me to submit notarized copies of my degree and CBC, both of which I don't have (I do have a degree, no CBC).
I was under the impression that I wouldn't need either out here, since I'm on an F-4. I don't want to ask my family back home to go running around to send it over just cuz I got a wink for a potential job opening that could happen months from now. I've already submitted documents for my Resident Card, but do I actually need these two documents to teach on an F4?
I have a picture of my degree, which is the closest thing I have to a copy. It's glued into a frame at home and is the only copy I can get from my Uni. CBC just seems like a hassle to arrange. Still I need to make some money, so if it's something that's required, then I guess I'll get it done.
Can anyone knowlegdeable give me some advice? |

you will need a copy of your notarized (or appostilled) CBC and degree to meet the MOE/POE requirements.
Under the changes in the law dating from last July and coming into force at the end of the year, all "teachers" will be required to submit them to the MOE/POE.
Your F-class loophole for (legally) teaching without said documents has closed.
Good news is that you are still portable - if you get a crap job you can easily move where an E2 teacher has much more difficulty.

I have an F5. Do permanent residents also require "a copy of your notarized (or appostilled) CBC and degree to meet the MOE/POE requirements"? |

What part of ALL TEACHERS regardless of nationality do feel you are exempt from?

Sheriff,
I am about to do the same in Jan. So what docs do you really need? I am working on getting the CBC but won't have by the time I get there should get it about 2 - 4 weeks later though. Did they accept the original diploma or do they want it apostilled? I think you are already there. Any advice before leaving the US...You know things to get done here before Korea?
Thanks, Mahalo |

I work with a guy who has an f-5.
They just wanted a local criminal background check.
So all this stuff is still kind of up in the air. |

You will need the same documents an E-2 visa holder has to obtain, plus the health check. People said that I wouldn't need the CBC since I'm an F-4 (recruiters did), but they were wrong - good thing I didn't listen to them about it.
Source: My own experience with being an F-4 holder. |

The only tip I can really give you is don't listen to when people say 'You won't need...' when applying for stuff, including your resident card, even when they say it's based on their own experiences. I've only been here for 3 weeks, but already I had to get some documents sent over to properly apply for my resident card. I applied for my F-4 through my mom in Canada, but due to family registries and myself being a male (potential army candidate), I had to show lineage through my dad who passed away, and is still listed as a Korean citizen, so I needed a copy of his death certificate, yada yada yada.
Just bring as much official documentation you can, your original degree or a notarized copy of it. I think original should be okay, but better to contact your local consulate/embassy. Also your background check if you can get it, and you should be able to before January unless you're outside of your country of residence, Original long form birth certificate that lists both of your parents, all of your parents citizenship stuff, and anything else you can think of.
Also bring enough money to float you for a while, just in case. It could be a month or two before I find work - there are a lot more restrictions on the job postings being a male Gyopo, especially if you're not fluent.
Oh another tip if you want to save some money - Bring US Cash and exchange in Itaewon at one of the yellow exchange shops- they give you the best rates.
Good luck. |

If an F visa decided to quit their current job, would they need to ask their employer for their apostilled CBC and degree back? Or, is it on file with the MOE? |

Don't give them the original. The MOE only needs copies.

Does this mean I don't have to show the originals to my employer, and can simply take in copies of the check and apostille? |

when did the schools start requiring a CRC from F4s? i knew a few schools that i applied for required it even back in 2008, but all the other schools never asked me for it. i have worked at 3 different schools and i was never asked for my CRC.
a few of my F4 friends recently got jobs the past 2 months and they were not required to submit a CRC. however, another friend of mine applied to the same school and now the school is asking her for a CRC. they applied 2-3 weeks apart from each other. did something change in the past month??
and how about F4 teachers who have already been teaching in Korea?
is there a website that has the OFFICIAL laws and requirements? |

They will. Beginning early in 2012 it will be a MOE requirement that ALL TEACHERS (regardless of visa class) will need to submit a copy of their degree and CBC (with apostilles) to the MOE.
