Good news is that
Don't give them the original. The MOE only needs copies.

Says who? Can you verify this? |
Are you questioning the Knowledge of the almight tompattz!
In the end, tom is usually right. Besides do you want to spend another two months and hundred dollors or more for an extra CRC. |

One of my co-workers has been teaching on an F4 here for seven years, and my school has required he submit a CBC. Previously, he did not have to.
As for CBC copies, I found out you give them a copy, but you need to have the official paper with you as proof that it is legit for the MOE, apparently. This was what I was told today. |

you will need a copy of your notarized (or appostilled) CBC and degree to meet the MOE/POE requirements.
Under the changes in the law dating from last July and coming into force at the end of the year, all "teachers" will be required to submit them to the MOE/POE.
Your F-class loophole for (legally) teaching without said documents has closed.
Good news is that you are still portable - if you get a crap job you can easily move where an E2 teacher has much more difficulty.

I have an F5. Do permanent residents also require "a copy of your notarized (or appostilled) CBC and degree to meet the MOE/POE requirements"? |
What part of ALL TEACHERS regardless of nationality do feel you are exempt from?

Thanks ttompatz. Have started the ball rolling on the CBC. |

| Seven years abroad has taught me to not believe everything I read on Daves ESL. It's a good source for checking current events, but verification is important. I know there's a possibility that we all need the documents, but I question the validity of showing copies vs. original documents. I've heard people saying both....so yes, I don't believe everything ttompaz says. Oh by the way, did you know that the DMZ is going to open starting next week? Yeah, you can walk right into North Korea without a visa. Just get a Kim Jong il wristband when you enter and off you go. |

Regarding Canadian CRC, does anyone know if I need an official CRC or can I just get an official clearance letter from my local home police department in Canada that says I have no record on the RCMP databases? It's a much simpler process and I can do it all on line based on a inquiry based search. Should be much quicker.
On the Toronto Police Service website however, it says that it's not suitable for people being employed or volunteering with vulnerable peoples (kids), however I don't know if that's for Canada, or if it applies in Korea as well.

I was able to get a municipal check done and verified by the Korean Consulate, plus thanks to my sister who lived near the consulate. I was lucky mine was Vancouver Consulate as their website was informative and detailed.
Your problem is the Toronto consulate is vague on the details. Also not all municipal checks are equal. Some will allow mail in, others will not and need you to show in person, and some now will not give a paper CRC but some website link (no go for Korean immi). A quick glance and some thinking I think you can get it done, BUT you will need some one to do the third person check for you, plus run around to notarize documents and even visit the consulate. So do you have somebody who is willing to help you?
Another note, In the third person check they ask for two piece of your identification - which might be hard for you being here. For me and with mine - Calgary - the police asked for a notarized copy of my ID. Korean notary was fine but it upped the cost. But it was worth it as I got a CRC in under a month. So give them an email and ask if a notarized copy of your ID will be fine.
Some links to check out.

According to the officail immigration site E-1 Visa rules have not changed.
Is this true? The main problem is finidng immigstion officies that know and practice the correct rules. They are more and more trying to give E-2 to Professors who even have a PhD in their speciality and are being hired as Assistant Professor rank. So, whats really up???? |

Thanks dude, I appreciate this! Yeah I got a bro and a sis both in Toronto, who can help me out. I'm trying not to burden them too much, but I think they don't mind. I hope this clearance letter will suffice. |

| At my university an English professor with a PhD get e-2, but a japanese teacher with only a Ba Gets e-1. |

where is this information posted? are there going to be updates? where can i look for them?
if this was made law back in July, why didn't they start implementing it then? also, i understand if new teachers, or teachers that are applying for new jobs would have to get a Apostilled CRC and degree -- but what about the teachers who are 3-6 months into their contract? they would also have to submit one? it doesn't realistic??? |

I know. At my university we have native speaker's for English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Japanese and Chinese. All English natives are E-2, all the other languages are E-1. |

They did not implement it back then because some governments decide to start on a new year or give time for people to prepare.
Where is this information posted hmm. Have your tried some of the Korean government websites, some are in English. I bet it might have even been posted in some of the newspapers, too. Oh you do not read those. Me too, not much. That is why I try to read here at daves every week or two - because things are always changing. |

The law was passed last summer with implementation to occur in early 2012.
The MOE will accept copies of the ones on file for E2 applicants.
If you don't have a copy, go to Kimmi and ask for it.
They will charge you about 300 won for the copying costs.
