|
|
So I recently got dismissed fron my job as an after.school teacher because of a stupid reason not my faukt but anyway I'm finishing that job at the end of December. Well recently I got offered a great job at a public school with a March start date (when my contract wouldve been finished). My.dilemma.is that I havent had luck finding part time or a wintercamp. So I want to change to a tourist visa temporarily. I have my own apartment here so leaving Korea is not an option.
My question is how do I get the Tourist visa and if this will cause a big problem when I need to get a new E-2 visa at the end of February?
Thanks in advance~~[/u] |

The options I know of are:
1. extend visa 30 days, it will function like a tourist visa
2. leave and re-enter, you will have 90 days and maybe you can do both to get 120 days
3. get new documents in order to get new visa
4. try to "surf" from winter camp visa/temporary work so you can keep your visa status on E2 and don't get any form of a tourist visa (this option is more wishful thinking)
Good luck. |

get a D-10 for the period inbetween jobs.
If you switch to a tourist extension you will lose your status and not be able to transfer to your new job. It will require a visa run and may require new documents.

I checked into the D-10 and will try to do that. The process seems easy enough.
Also, I have all my paperwork coming in at the beginning of January so getting a new E-2 visa shouldn't be an issue. They're in the stages of getting apostilled in washington now.
Did you mean that if I get the D-10 that I still need to do a visa run? Or that's if I just get a tourist extension?
Thanks for the help~ |

You also need a graduate degree from one of the top 200 universities in the world for the D-10 from the official list made by The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2011-2012. |

I called Immigration today and asked them about what I needed and they just said that I need a photo and application and my arc card. They said that E-2 visa holders don't need that requirement and just bring the paperwork and the "investigator" will decided what we can do.
Also they answered the question about if I need to do a visa run with a D-10 and they said no that I would just go back to immigration and change back to E-2 visa.
Yay! Thanks everyone that replied! |

I am in a similar situation, but have no official job offer yet (just some feelers from schools right now). I wasn't aware of the D-10 visa so I already got an extension for 10 days (just yesterday, actually ) past when my visa expires (December 20th to December 30th). Does that disqualify me from applying for this visa?
If so, I guess that means two trips to Fukuoka... |

Yes, it does disqualify you for a transfer to a D10. 2 visa runs and a new visa in your near future.

Even if it may disqualify you, I would still go and ask. Maybe you will get lucky and some immigration officer will cancel the current arrangement and change it to a D10. It's worth a shot and might save you a visa run. I don't know how 2 were figured in this, but good luck. |

2:
1) at the end of the month when his tourist stay expires and
2) when he applies for his new visa
assuming he doesn't find a new employer and get the paperwork for a new visa done before the end of the month.

"Looking for work" and until very recently was not an option for E2s.

What about other E visas? Much like the 5-year-on-same-visa permanent residency option, this info came a bit late. Could've used it a couple of times in the past...
Anyway, glad something like that is available, since I don't go home between contracts to look for new work. |

Went back to immigration today. Thankfully, ttompatz was slightly incorrect for once.
They canceled it and allowed me to apply for the D-10. They said they had to hold my ARC for two weeks for processing or whatever. I could've danced out of there.
Now what is this residency with 5 years on the same visa??!! Google time. |

Officer's discretion and I am very happy for you. It is NOT a common occurrence.
5 years on the same status of sojourn (visa classes can change but not a new visa (visa run)), some paperwork and the approval of the minister of justice and you can get an F5.
