I hear a lot of "fresh out of college" bashing on these forums. I think that it is Americans who come out of college feel like the world should drop everything and take notice of them because they have an overpriced BA.
It is my opinion that those who are from other countries straight out of college are not as bad.

(yes im not american. I came here after working for a year after college and I dont mean all Americans, but a vast majority of them. On the other hand I dont mean all people from "other countries", but the vast majority of them.)

Anyway, too bad everything is not falling into place OP. Sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't.

OP, you seem to have pretty shitty attitude. Maybe it's time to look at yourself. Why did Avalon fire you? Why is your new employer thinking about firing you?

Is Korea/teaching really for you? Serious question.

Avalon did not fire me, I was pressured to quit. As I stated before other people on this forum also are aware, Avalon started this new policy of letting students rate you. I actually got an ok average, but that is not what mattered, i had too many twos. Looking back there are things i could have done better, but this is what you learn in your first year of teaching.

My current employer is not thinking of firing me, she likes me and most of my kids like me. Nero and koreatimes make me realize what I had a feeling about, its more so the teaching and where i live. The stuff dealing with my contract is just insult to injury. I think if i lived in a better area or had a sweeter gig or the korean gf, i would have more incentive to stay. Thats why most people stay in korea for more than a year in my opinion. Other people just hang in there for the money at the end and are counting down the whole time.

For the record I do not regret taking this job, but i will say if i saw this job advertised while i was still in America. I would not have even applied. As for my shitty attitude, i am just frustrated and i think most people in my position would be.

Wow, the American bashing comes out. For the love of everything in this world, get off your high horse. I've met at least 5 shady Canadians while I've been abroad, seen at least 4 alcoholic Irish 'lads' falling over themselves in Hongdae, and had to listen to at least 7 different conversations with dudes from England whining about Americans. Does that mean that I should generalize? Do you always have to be envious of the Americans? Pathetic.

To the original poster: I don't think a school has to pay you pension if you don't do a year contract, but I could be wrong on this. I wouldn't expect any job here to give me pension if it wasn't for a full year. And no, you should not deserve any severance at all if you didn't do 12 months. That's the standard. If you get airfare in this situation, then you are lucky. As for being the only foreigner there...come on! Don't be that pathetic.

Alcoholic Irishmen and Brits complaining about Americans. Looks like you're already generalising. Look, I've been here about 3 years. For the most part its been Americans straight out of college who have an unreasonable and unrealistic opinion of themselves and complain like the world is going to end when other people do not think that way about them. If they are not complaining about fucking exchange rates they are complaining about how their co teacher would go to the shop with them to buy shampoo.

Noq if you read my first post properly again. I wasn't saying all Americans nor did I say it was only Americans. Furthermore I was only really talking about those who are just out of college.

Oh, nail on the head there. Im so envious not to be from a country where not believing in evolution is something to be proud about and seriously considers giving the nuclear codes to someone who is also proud not to believe in evolution or global warming.

Posting for help is not necessary. This is a question only you can answer. If you aren't enjoying Korea, and can have it better at home then its time to peace out.

Seriously, ignore the trolls, they know nothing about you. Just weigh the pros and cons of staying over going home, then you have your decision.

Just the "vast majority." The American bashing adds nothing useful to this discussion, unless your suggestion to the OP is to stop being American.

By the way I did not get my flight money here because of what happened at Avalon. So i just look at it, I am doing a full year Korea and the only benefit I am getting is the flight money home. If that was the case for everyone, a lot less people would come here.

The flight money plus your monthly salary and a place to stay, even if the place isn't great. If you can get something better at home, then go.

I've been in Korea four years and have never gotten severance and only got two flights paid for (the one in and a visa run to Japan) so I don't see the problem. I looked at the big picture and decided to let those things go.

Yikes, so Avalon is hiring newbies then having the kids decided if they are good enough to stay or go. Wow.

Considering the training I got from Avalon (virtually none), I'm glad that policy was not around back in 2007. It takes a good 6 months to figure out what you are doing.
