Yea the RCMP one is screwed. I have been waiting for ages for mine. Once again it can be blamed all on the Americans...... Screw that nonsense. All bureaucracies are messed. Tonnes of reasons why RCMP and FBI check take a long time.
The Vancouver consulate says Municipal/Provincial/Federal are all good. The other consulates are vague.
Still look at the city/province where you are from and check it's website out. Maybe you can get a CRC done by mail. Quicker, but sometimes a touch more expensive. Calgary was not my hometown but it was a place I lived for a few years. The police accepted my application.
Sorry people, The Winnipeg one is out now. They changed there whole system.
Consider applying for the RCMP one now, and even consider a city check, too. Just to be safe. |

I got my Calgary/City check verified by the Vancouver consulate about a month ago. Have yet to see if immigration will take. Likely will, immi officer will do the basic scan for the Korean stamp, see it and be satisfied. |
Well, if the Consulate is stamping a city check then (you would think) it must be acceptable.
Mine was notarized by the Canadian Embassy back in 2008. And was deemed acceptable in 2009, 2010 and now in July 2011. I was never warned nor have I signed any paperwork saying "I will update it before the next Visa renewal". Of course, I've never been to immigration. My school deals directly with immigration.
I just don't want to be told in July 2012 that it's no good. That I have 90 days to get an RCMP version or leave the country.
RCMP checks can take anywhere from 3 to 5 months. It's ridiculous. |
hmmm... the change of the rules was announced in 2010.
All new applicants beginning in Jan 2011 were in compliance.
People in Korea prior to Jan 2011 were given 1 year's grace (2011) to come into compliance with the new rules.
If you don't have them on file (copy of your degree with consular certification) and COPY of your degree (with consular certification) you can expect that your application for an extension of an E2 (in 2012) will be declined and you will be going home, working illegally or sitting here without work while you wait for the documents to arrive.
It's not like it is a surprise (it has been 18 months since the change), ignorance of the law/rules is not a defense and de Nile is a river in Egypt not an excuse.

Yea tompattz. Ignorance is not an excuse. Even thru my degree papers are on file, I still got extra's, because ignorance of the laws also extends to the immigration officials, too.
About 2010, I asked immigration do they have my degree on file? They said yes. Come a month or two later, in a renewal with my school. They could not find it, luckily I was given the 2011 grace period. I have checked again recently and they said yes it is on file, all is good! Still, I spent the money and got it done again, just in case!
I always expect things to go *beep* up! Hope for the best, prepare for the worst! |
