Hi guys.

Finishing public contract in February. The visa on my passport and my ARC are both valid til end of April as I started mid semester.

So.

1. Does my visa get cancelled when I finish my public job in February or is it still valid til April regardless of emploment situation?
2. If it is still valid and I start a job in a hagwon in March, to renew the visa in April, do I have to leave Korea and do a visa run?
3. If it's cancelled, how to I get a new visa?
4. If I look for a job in a hagwon, will they look for a reference from my current public school? I don't want my school to know I'm looking for other jobs...
5. Will I need a new set up documents? I have my original degree but don't have a spare apostilled/notarised copy.

Thanks for reading.

K.

1. Yes & No - Get a job before your contract finishes. do a VISA TRANSFER. Finish your contract and have your new employer transfer your Visa over to your new school.

2. No

3. Probably need to go back to your home country - get a new job - re-apply. 99% sure, not 100%. You do have 1 month before you must leave korea. If contract expires Feb 29 - u have til March 29th to get out. Possibly you may get a new Visa without leaving if you do so prior to March 29th and have the time to do it.

4. I doubt it but it will depend on your new employer ---- so maybe.

5. No - Not if you do a straight Visa transfer. Not sure on the CRC though but I don't think so.

1) your visa doesn't get canceled BUT you have 14 days to report your change of status (loss of employment and sponsor) to immigration.
they will give you 30 days to find a new job and transfer or leave the country.

2) if you want to transfer your visa to a new sponsor (new job) then you perform a simple transfer and extend your ARC at the same time (90k won and some paperwork).

3) Don't let it get canceled. When your contract expires, if you haven't found a new job yet, change your status to D10 (at your local immigration office). If it expires or gets canceled you have to begin the visa process again from scratch.

4) Possibly.

5) If you need a new visa (are unable to transfer, old visa canceled/expired) then maybe, yes.

Thanks a million guys.

That's all very clear. Really appreciate it.

Good to hear I have a chance to get a job if I decide to stay in Korea when my current contract is up.

Thanks again.

One OTHER option, if you decide to stay in Korea and IF you don't line up a new within that 30 days is to change to a D10 (looking for work) visa.

One more question in relatin to this.

It now looks like I'll be leaving Korea. My contract finishes on February 29th.

The visa on my passport expires at the end of April, my ARC expires in May. So I'm covered for both.

But my sponsor ceases on the February 29th, right? So what's the latest I can book a flight for without having to tell Immigration about my change in status? Can I stay in Korea a couple of weeks without telling them or how long exactly?

Thanks.

Think it's best to tell them just in case. But if you work for a public school wouldn't you sign a one year contract? If you started in April you would finish in April regardless of semester changes. Seems a little strange to me.

SMOE don't give 12 month contracts if you start after the normal time. You have to sign an initial 10 month contract or whatever and then re-sign for another 6 months in order to get the flight, bonus etc. So I'd advise anyone reading this who wants to work with SMOE not to start outside of the normal times.

Because you have to work 16 months or whatever to get the benefits that someone who starts on the first day of semester gets.
