Approximately one week ago, I received this e-mail from a Korean employer. As you can see, nowhere in the letter does it indicate who it is from.
Dear, ....
My manager want to interview with you by a phone.
We are in Seoul, Korea.
Because I don't know where you live in exactly, I don't know a time difference.
If you wanna interview with us, please let me know
a. the time difference Seoul, Korea and you
b. your possible time to inverview
When you give me a schedule, please offer 3 kinds of options for me to choose within next week.
c. right telephone number to call you.
Please give me a answer, as soon as possible.
Best regards,
....
After reading this, I replied to the e-mail politely asking for the name of the company and how they had heard of me. After one week, they still haven't responded. Fortunately, I keep a copy of all the job applications I send out. I compared the e-mail address to those for previous applications and found a match. It seems that this employer is a part of a new government program (the English villages) and I had applied for this job over three months ago!
So, in summary, they did not acknowledge my application for three months nor inform me of who they were when they finally did contact me. Then, they didn't respond to me when I requested their identity. It sounds like this program is going to be as successfull as EPIK was! |

It's normal not to hear from a school for a long time, then suddenly get contacted after you have given up. For some unknown reason applications here go largely unacknowledged. It can be frustrating.
If it is a government job, as you indicated, it might be a better deal than most hogwan jobs.
If you are still interested in the job, I suggest responding with the information as requested. You will get far more information on the phone than you will asking for information in an e-mail. |

I had the same sort of thing happen. I received an email from a recruiter telling me that a school was thinking of employing me and that they would like an interview. The email had some dribble about how there was another Australian there and it was a great school (arent they all?).
I replied that first I would like to know some information about the school. Student ages, salary, working hours and apartment arrangements. Never heard back from them. |

| I've got some of that as well - recruiters refusing to tell me the name of the school and trying to get me to sign a contract without an interview. Two weeks ago this recruiter was trying to get me to sign a contract that didn't have the schools name on it. I know I'm new to the Korea thing, but that doesn't mean I'm going to walk into mine field. If a school doesn't think its a good idea for me to know their name--- something is wrong. |

Ever apply for a government job?
I did back home at the end of my B.A. and they called me one year later when there was an opening...
3 months is not that bad.... |

| How about that English Village anyway. Sounds kind of cool. What kind of pay you think theyll offer? I want to be the guy that works at the 7-11 for 3,000,000/month. |

Hey guys!
Thanks for your responses. I noticed that the English Village program just advertised on Dave's this morning. It looks like a pretty good deal. However, they still haven't responded to my initial request mentioned in my posting above so I'm a little concerned that it may have the same organizational problems as EPIK. I worked for EPIK for three years and that was a nightmare at times. Anyway, it's all sort of irrelevant now because I've been in the Middle East for the last month having forgotten about my application to this employer. Good luck to anyone applying to this program! |
