I hope they pull out of this ok. Looks like it's still a bit risky as destination zone for vacation though I'm sure they could use the tourist $ about now. Tickets to BKK are cheap but who knows what it will be like w/ trying to recover. |

As a tourist, you will never see much of what was flooded and there was no impact in the major tourist (beach) destinations - business as usual.
Avoiding Thailand would be like avoiding Washington because Katrina smacked New Orleans.

Yeah, I assumed the northern parts were in ok shape. Truth is, I kind of liked BKK as a city when I visited this summer and wanted to check it out in more detail.
Chiang Mai was ok but I thought it was horrendously touristy - maybe I just didn't get away enough.
In any case - thanks again. |

I was going to go somewhere else, but flights to Bangkok are not that expensive right now.
Are there a lot of tourists still going there? |

Not as many as expected (which is why the flights are cheap).
Are tourist sights open = yes.
Is flooding likely to impact a tourist = no.
Is the flooding mostly finished = yes.
Is BKK dry yet? = Anyplace a tourist is likely to go = yes.
