I've flown United and Korean Air. I prefer United because it has a better selection of movies and music.

To the central part of the US, a ticket on a US carrier was just under 1.7 million won (round trip and including all taxes). The same flight on KAL and Asiana was almost 2.3 million won (round trip and all taxes included).

Also, it has been my experience that most flights on US carriers to the central or eastern parts of the US will put you on an Asian airline to Japan, but once in Japan you will be on the US carrier the rest of the way.

Anyway, you'll get no argument from me that the Asian carriers are better, but for me, their premium prices are not worth it. I can deal with a few hours of poor service and a general lack of comfort. I'm asleep half the time anyway, so no big deal.

That being said, if you are traveling with small children, it's probably better to pony up the money for better service.

Flight to Boston leaving the week before Christmas and returning the week after New Years on an Asian carrier cost me 1.2 million per person all in. Furthermore, ALL of the North American carriers were more expensive. That does, however, include two hours in Japan and three in LA. Navigating the Korean travel websites for cheap flights is a must.

Boston is not in the central part of the country and is a popular destination.

Yep. Prices to the east and west coasts will always cost less than flights to the central areas of the country. I would assume the same is true in Canada.

If it's not a popular area for Asian tourists, the prices on Asian carriers will be higher. (Same flight, layovers, etc.).

yeah the tv's on united are 10x better than the one's i've had on asiana. food was about the same. i think the unspoken reason that everyone prefers airlines like asiana is because they appreciate the hiring guidelines used for the flight attendants.

+1

I don't know how they pull it off, but Korean websites are on average 200-500 bucks cheaper than Kayak
