From what i have read, avoiding split shifts is a given.
Therefore, 2 options are left.
#1. Morning-Early Evening(i.e. approx 8am-6pm)
#2. Afternoon - Late Evening (i.e. 1pm-9pm)
I like starting work in the afternoon, i can never get up early. However, this option essentially means from mon-fri i cant do anything (i.e. shopping, going out, working out etc). I doubt i will do anything productive till 2pm, besides sleeping.
What are your experiences and advice? |

The guideline I follow is 3 or 4 per block (if the school needs, one break between classes 1 and 2, 2 and 3, or 3 and 4 is allowed). The only reason why split shifts are bad is that schools don't follow this guideline and schedule 2, 2, 2 throughout the day.
If you get up in the morning and do 3 or 4, and then 3 or 4 from late afternoon (or even early) then you can either do your shopping in between or meet up with people in the evening.
In this case, I look for a mix. I allow one messed up day a week if it means another day is either completely free or I only teach a few classes in one block. |

If that is the only thing you are worried about, take the afternoon shift. There are large chain stores everywhere that are open 24 hours a day, lots of restaurants and bars stay open until people leave and you can always find a gym close by that stays open until 12 or 1am. |

Depends on you.
Some people are morning people. Others are not. |

| I'm not a morning person, but I prefer the normal shift of 8/9am - 5/6pm. |

I can adapt to whatever working hours but I prefer the morning shift too. The best schedules were something like 9-4:30. Now I have some days where I have to stay until 6pm and even that kind of sucks. There's a bigger difference than I would have thought between 9-4:30 and 10:30-6.
24 hour stores are really not the norm. My nearest Emart (Yongsan Stn) isn't open 24h, and even if it were the bus quits running around 11pm. |

| i prefer the afternoon shift because i can sleep in or get a nice meal and coffee before work, go to work, and go out for drinks or food or whatever with friends after work and not worry about what time i have to wake up in the morning. |

I work the 1-9pm; it's not too bad, but I'm a morning person and would love to be able to working a morning shift.
I just hate the feeling of waking up at 7am and looking at the clock and thinking, "great, only 6 hours until I have to go..."
So it goes. |

| I like 9-6, despite the hours being a bit longer than they might otherwise be, mostly because I'd hate to lose every night of the week. Finishing when I do allows me to go anywhere in Seoul after work. |

8.30am - 4.30pm is good if you can get up easily and like to fill your evenings.
I do 2pm - 9pm and like it as I like to get up around 10am, exercise in the morning, then have a liesurely and luxurious lunch and just snack when I get home at 9.30pm whilst watching some movies etc. But the best part is getting up at 1pm if I really want to.
After schools are good, usually 11am - 5pm but hard to get with e2 now. |
