There MUST be some kind of work around, right? For the amount of money this thing cost, it is ridiculous. |

I think any phone with a camera does not have the ability to turn the shutter sound off.........to deter pervs from doing upskirt photos in subway stations!!
There might be unofficial hacks available somewhere if you google hard enough. |

I was once shown an iPhone app that displays a text document that u can pretend to read while happily snapping away without suspicion. Forget the name but sounds like just the thing your after for those late night subways home. Good luck! |

Darn, I wanted to be the first to post about the OP's intent . However, if you really want to do it you will probably need to jailbreak your iPhone. |

I can say that there is a new App for it
My girlfriend has the app on her 4S. You can take photos without hearing the shutter sound. I don't recall the name of the App. |

Is it actually true that shutter sounds on camera-phones are a legal requirement here because of the huge love of upskirt photography? |

I am a legitimate photographer and plan to occasionally use this for legitimate photography, as a backup device for certain situations. And as someone with many years experience as a photographer I know that there are regularly situations that arise when taking photos where you don't want to be making a lot of noise while taking a photo. These aren't nefarious; it's more about respect and tact. |

Yes it is. In most countries any phone with a camera is required by law to make a sound of at least a certain volume when a photo is taken. |
