So I was told today I have open class next week, but I have a bit of a dilemma. The class is for pre-school who are 4 / 5 years old, their ability in English is limited to saying individual words such as Apple, Cheese etc....
My problem is that in my school there is me, one other foreign teacher and a 22 year old Korean teacher who is basically my boss, the owner of my school I have seen for a total of like 10 minutes in the 2 months that I have worked here. There is no structured curriculam here and we basically teach what ever we want.
I was told yesterday that the class will be 15 minutes long and must be "visually impressive, include several songs and the kids must be speaking in FULL sentences"
They quite simply do not have the ability to do this and also bearing in mind when i tried to teach them "do you have?" a few weeks ago I was told this was too difficult.
The 22 year old ( my boss) wants the lesson plan tomorrow and whenever I give her any kind of plan she gets really stressed, goes into a bad mood and then hits me with lots of contradictory statements about what I should do.
I am afraid to give her the lesson plan because I know she will complain, and am considering refusing to do the open class if she does complain or unless she provides me with what she wants, which I doubt she can as she has no clue what she actually wants.
Any advice ? |

lol...Yes I think that is going to be the way forward, I will probably have to endure her foul moods for the next seven days and redesign the lesson plan several times, even though it will essentially be the same once I have changed it. But I guess after the open class maybe she will go back to being her normal smiley self.
Kind of frustrating though the mentality of people in authority here. |

Do you already teach these kids?
If you do, just spend all your classes making them memorize a few easy songs. Doesn't matter if they understand or not, just get them to practice until the words kind of sound okay.
During the open class just recite the songs, receive standing ovation + promotion. |

Yes I already teach them, they do know a few songs and to be honest thats not the part I am most worried about.
Its the "full sentences" part I am most concerned about as they are so young its difficult to explain to them what I want them to do. Some days they are ok and others they are in their own little world, as with most kids their age.
I am also worried about my boss, she basically gets lots of flack from the owner who is never here so its usually by phone. So whenever there is a situation where the boss wants to speak to her or reprimand her for something,she then gets in a panic / stressed out / moody and just says all kind of random contradictory things about what we are doing and what we should be doing.
I guess I will just have to go with the flow until its over in a week or so, then things will hopefully return to some kind of normality. |
