Hi everyone,

I sent my resume and photo a week ago to about 12 recruiters (mostly from Dave's and Craigslist) but I've only heard back from 3, with one just simply saying "thanks."

Fortunately, I'm now actively working with one of the recruiters that got back to me (they do both public and hagwons).

I was wondering how much longer I have to wait for the other recruiters so that I know they aren't interested in me. I'm a little disappointed at the lack of response, because most of the recruiters I contacted are pretty well known and have been recommended by the people here.

Maybe I was too picky with my location preferences... Also, I made sure to contact just the recruiters who would be willing to work with gyopos and relative newbies.

Sorry if this thread seems silly. I've searched the forums for answers beforehand.

Thank you.

School ends in 2 weeks... then the kids are off (with the exception of 2 weeks) till March 2.

If you don't have all your documents in hand it would also be to your detriment (even F4s will now need FBI checks to meet the MOE requirements).

ADD the fact that 100's of E2s are not getting renewed next term in public schools in Seoul and you will get some idea of the flux that the EFL industry in Korea is in at the moment.

Good luck. You're going to need it.

I actually have all of my documents ready (apostilled criminal check, diploma, reference letters, transcript, etc) and mentioned this to the recruiters.

I just read about the situation in Seoul a few minutes ago. That's really unsettling!

Just to be more specific, I'm applying for mostly hagwon jobs in or around Seoul (which includes Gyeonggi) and the ads for these positions seem abundant... but I guess with the state the industry is in, the recruiters have their hands full?

I would appreciate at least a confirmation of receipt from the recruiters, but maybe I'm asking for too much.

Could it be too early for me to worry?

I think some recruiters are just extremely busy. I posted my CV on the resume board and over a month later there were still recruiters getting in touch for the first time.

Personally, I would wait till March or April to get a position. You are more likely to experience a school needing a teacher ASAP (maybe the one they hired bailed). Now is not the time to be picky or reasonable. Schools are/will be looking at who will jump the highest for the lowest salary.

Thank you for the replies. Yeah, I actually mentioned that I wanted a position in March. Maybe it's a bit too early for that right now, and I did think about them being busy. Guess I'm just being too impatient. The good thing is that I've been working with a great recruiter for the past several days and I hope it works out... Just need to get in touch with more recruiters for back up. I've yet to try posting my resume on Dave's though... Maybe I should go for it.

Sorry for the double-post. I just wanted to write an update.

I'm still only working with one recruiting agency. No replies from the rest that I had contacted.

It's strange. Korvia, Footprints, and ATC got back to me within a day or two. No word from ParkEnglish or WorkNPlay (and 7 others).

Should I e-mail them again? Or can I assume that they're just not interested in me?

Why don't you call them and talk on the phone? They are more likely doing actual business by phone or Skype than just email.

You say you are working with only one agency, but then you listed several agencies who replied or didn't reply yet.

I meant that I'm currently working with only one agency (ATC).
I worked with Korvia and Footprints in the past.
Perhaps I can try calling, but I'd assume bigger agencies like worknplay would initially communicate with me by e-mail. Embarassed

No, don't assume. Be proactive and call. This is what happened to me.

One guy from worknplay called me up, and he offered me 3 offers for 3.0 salary. Two were middle school and one was elementary. At the time I wanted middle school. However, he said only the elementary one was available after saying one already had a teacher and the other middle school wanted a female teacher. Whether that was true or not I don't know, but I decided to go with the elementary school anyway.

The phone was then handed over to another recruiter who said he was a new recruiter and didn't know the salaries. I ended up with only 2.1 after getting a recommendation letter.

All this was by phone, no emails until AFTER the phone calls. They want to hear your voice and know you are a native English speaker. That will make them want to communicate with you more. If native English speakers are calling them and you just send an email, you will be placed at the end of the line while they set up interviews with the ones calling.

The emails happen after you interview. They then know you, and they know you are an important person because there is a school that wants to hire you. They will then track your emails and know it is you and not someone else in your situation now you hasn't called. They will then contact you by email instead of the ones waiting. Right now, you are one of the ones waiting.

So, no, don't assume anything. This is not a restaurant where the waiter will come to you when they are ready. They are more like a cashier, you have to go to them when you are ready and have your groceries (documents).

If you don't hear from them in a at least about a week, forget about them. Recruiters if they are ever going to be interested will get back to you in about 2 or 3 days. The only exception may be the really large recruiters say in Japan. Every Korean recruiter that was interested in me contacted me very quickly. So don't waste your time waiting on recruiters.
