Disappointing, even though I am against same-sex marriage for polar opposite reasons.

If you are against same sex marriages why are you dissapointed.
You know as far as I'm concerned if you don't like the idea of gay marriage, there is a simple solution - don't marry a gay (especially if you are not one yourself). |

I am disappointed because most gays today support marriage rights for themselves, and on the issue of homosexuality, I tend to agree way more with gays than orthodox rabbis.
But I am even more disappointed with modern gays who want to get married. Gay liberation has its roots in the radical politics of the likes of Harry Hay, founder of the Mattachine Society and generally recognized as the father of gay lib. He never envisioned marriage as a part of his liberation, and must now be turning in his grave seeing how his radical movement has become co-opted and mainstreamed. Gay politics no longer has that anti-establishment edge to it. |

Well 99% of people are concerned with their own self-interest so why would gay be any different.
I think also most gay people are too busy getting on with their lives to be trying to overthrow the "establishment". |

Well that's life. If gay people want to be boring, married suburbanites then let them. Not everyone wants a life of fighting/conflict. Some people just want to be boring regular folks who like sex with someone of the same sex.
I wouldn't marry anyone gay but then again I wouldn't marry a straight either. If gay people get married it doesn't affect me at all. |

| But gays were/are fighting for equal rights. Once they achieve those rights why would they necessarily choose to continue to be radical and anti-establishment? |
