If this happened to me, I'd be pissed. What a load of crap:

Quote:
Q. In early September, I saw a good deal on a round-trip fare from San Francisco to Palau, in the South Pacific, on Korean Air. I booked two tickets for February one for me, one for my girlfriend for $510 apiece. In the weeks that followed, we booked hotels and planned activities, and I bought an underwater camera. We were looking forward to a great vacation.

But on Nov. 7 a full 64 days after our initial reservations Korean Air e-mailed to say that our tickets had been canceled.

This is one of the perils of booking online without a travel agent...

How could a travel agent fix that?

They wouldn't have sold tickets they weren't authorized to sell at prices they weren't authorized to sell at and you would have recourse under consumer protection laws that don't apply in this case.

My mom was a travel agent for 15 years she saw the story on CBC and shook her head and laughed. If you went through an agency there's mechanisms in place to prevent this kind of thing.

if that kind of thing worries you then go through travel agents until you get a high ranking status on the airlines you fly on often. then instead of you getting the boot when the flight is overbooked, the chumps on the bottom of the totem pole will get it instead and you can book yourself online (almost) worry free.
