Koreans and those foriegners with Korean ethnicity have very thin skin when it comes to all matters regarding Korea's 'pride.'
Thus if I say I don't like tearing my fish to unenjoyable shreds and only being able to eat tiny bites of it because the chef was too lazy or didn't have the know-how to fillet it; I thus am a whinging baby, cultural imperialist and obviously, hate ALL Korean food.
I'm not complaining of mussles in shells lol, I KNOW most countries serve them in shells as I've eaten them in more countries than most of you have ever visited lol.
I'm talking about a nice grilled trout or mackeral that has to be torn to shreds just because no-one thought to fillet it first. |

I take offense when the said complaint is worded so that Koreans are the only people on the entire planet guilty of doing it.
GASP! Why do KOREANS do ______ ???? How could they!?!? This doesn't happen where I'm from, so I'm going to assume no one else in the world does it either. Only Korea is backwater, lazy, and uncivilized!

I agree with the Floating World. Don't expect us to treat your food like it is excellent unless you are willing to make it excellent. Fish bones and guts are not nice to have in your meal. Obviously shellfish is different.
I was a chef back home, most definitely NOT at a five star restaurant, and I spent a lot of my prep time picking the bones out of salmon using tweezers. Why? Because we had pride in our food. Fish bones are not cool.
And before anyone starts the 'well don't eat Korean food' b.s, I have to say; the world is not black and white. As much as that would suit your mentality it is just not so.
Koreans don't live in the 1950's now, they don't have to eat like peasants. Maybe if they travelled to other countries and actually left their tour groups instead of trying to avoid worldly experience at every turn, they would see that some of their cooking preparation could be improved for the better. |

Well this is not an attack on you, but I would call it a "Korean thing" if 99% of the fish I am served here is full of bones. By that, I'm not saying that you will never find a single bone in a fish elsewhere, simply that Koreans really like their boney fish.
I don't think this is a big deal and I think this whole thing is silly. Some people don't like picking out bones. So what? Personally, I don't go out of my way to eat the fish here. Problem solved. |

I don't mind fish bones because I'm good enough with chopsticks that I can pick them out, separate it, or whatnot.
삼치, 고등어, 꽁치, 갈치
The 4 top fishes eaten in Korea and I could de-bone all of them with my chopsticks in under 3 minutes.
I'd be more than happy to meet any of you at a Korean restaurant in Seoul and show you how. |

Maybe the Koreans LIKE their food that way? After all plenty of them have traveled abroad and tasted different foods...if they wanted change they would have made it already. But no...it must be because they're uncultured barbarians...it can't possibly be because they have a different palate than you.
And of course your world view is the correct one because you are an enlightened being.
If you don't like the food don't eat it. It is that simple. I don't like the fish with bones either...so you know what? I SIMPLY DON'T EAT IT! There see how easily the problem is solved? I swear some people here should not be allowed outside their country's borders. |

In a lot of restaurants, I'll agree with you. However, with my (Korean) family at home, the bones are usually removed before serving. |

You said the 'barbarian' thing, not me.
My objection stems from the ambition of many Koreans to promote their food to a higher international level and receive greater appreciation for it than there currently is.
There seems to be the idea that the problem doesn't stem from the inability to adjust their food to an international standard, rather everyone else in the world has the problem.
Another criticism I have is that the food could be good! But there is stubborn resistance to change it for the better in any way. 90% of Koreans who travel do NOT taste other countries food. They go on group tours where they eat at Korean restaurants. Hence their believe that foreigners cannot eat spicy food, all Chinese food is oily, all western food is fatty etc etc.
In fact, I'm sure Koreans never used to drink much coffee, they were probably happy drinking tea.
Don't you think the introduction of a higher quality food presentation is advantageous to everyone? It just seems a pity, more than anything. The quality could be so much better. But you are right. They are happy.
However...If they expect any sort of international recognition for their cuisine along the lines of Japan...
