I just found out that my insurance doesn't cover me if I break anything. Is this the done thing?
I don't plan on breaking anything, but I'm off skiing at the weekend and I've no insurance! Does anyone know where I can get some just for the weekend? and I'll sort myself out properly after that.
Cheers! |

Maybe just get some travel insurance. You might have to say you're a resident of your home country to do so, though. I use WorldNomads.com
We have used them several times and claimed just once. The claim went through without stress and was paid in full.
Enjoy the snow! |

Do you have national health insurance, OP? I've heard that you will be out a few million won for a bad break.
Does anyone who has the national plan also pay for supplementary insurance in Korea? I know a lot of Koreans who do this and I'm interested in buying some as well since I do a lot of somewhat dangerous sports. |

Thread update with correct address:
Gina Jun
Gina Insurance Agency
#36-39 Itaewon-Dong, Yongsan-Gu
Seoul 140-862 Korea
Ph: 02-794-7414
Ph: 02-793-6909
Cell: 011-9873-7415
Email: [email protected]
She is located kind of between the Crown Hotel and the new mirrored-glass building (maybe that's the new Gu-Office?) in Yongsan-Gu.
She can offer health insurance to some visa-types -- call her for an explanation.
She also can offer you insurance on your apartment belongings, which is pretty cheap (like $30 a year on several million in stuff... can't remember).
Car insurance prices quoted by her are usually in DOLLARS, which makes them somewhat expensive compared to other Korean car insurances (I find Educar and Lotte to be the best deal, but be prepared to deal entirely in Korean). But with Gina's company (I believe it's named Chartis instead of AIG now) you get English service, and an English number to call in emergencies, if it's worth that to you. |

NHIC covers broken bones (cheap).
What insurance does your school have you on? |

I called the number for Gina's office and they told that they no longer offer a health insurance policy.
I will be in Korea for two months on a D-10 visa between contracts. Could anyone recommend a private insurance company with a high deductible that I could use in Korea? I just want something for if I break a leg, get hit by a bus, or need a transplant. You know, the big expenses. I don't plan on leaving the country so a plan that works only in Korea is fine. |

If a D10 is not a residency visa, you might get by with travel insurance. Dirt cheap. |
