Researching and especially from advice of a member of this forum, I believe that the best place for a newbie (such as myself) would be a large satellite city/suburb in the Gyeonggi-do province that has access to the Seoul subway.

Are there any major cities/urban settlements within Gyeonggi-do that i should ensure i avoid?

Is Incheon as good as the major cities as Gyeonggi-do province?

What i think are important considerations include:

-Livable level of acceptance for foreigners
-Good social opportunities (to meet Caucasians and native Koreans)
-Not too many foreigners (dont want to be the "little fish in a big pond")
-Safe
-Good amount of grocery stores/restaurants/shopping etc

any advice is appreciated, thanks!

You're describing Bundang.

I'd say Anyang and Suwon are tied for third, with Incheon (counting Bucheon, Bupyeong, and Gimpo, but not Songdo) in fourth, and Uijeongbu in fifth.

Avoid Yongin, Gwangju, Icheon, Siheung, Ansan, and anything equally or more remote/rural.

I was just down in Wolgot New Town the other day, a small wedge of waterfront property in Siheung wedged between Songdo and Ansan, and holy Christ was it depressing. Looks close to Seoul, but very tough to reach.

Bundang, Ilsan, Greater Anyang (including Gunpo and Uiwang as well).

Ilsan eats bundang for breakfast.

Bundang just feels like a suburb of Seoul, Ilsan has it's own unique feel to it, the people are firendlier and more laid back and the food is generally very good too.

I know 3 black people in my neighbourhood, so I guess Bucheon is out.

Dongtan is nice. However, do NOT live anywhere else in Hwaseong "City".

I personally recommend Anyang, where I live. Not only does Anyang have what you're looking for, it's also closer to Gangnam than several parts of Seoul!

i'l be sure to avoid Bucheon then.

haha just kidding, i meant to say "foreigner", but as i am not used to using such a term, i used the first word descriptive of a non-korean that came to mind!
