Hello all! Hopefully those more knowledgeable than me can share their wisdom.
I'm currently finishing my contract at a public school. The end of my contract and e-2 visa is January 2nd. At this point I will be flying home to Canada, spending a month and a half with friends and family, and then flying back to Korea. I will be starting a university job in March. (Hurray!)
I just got a call from the university asking if I could extend my visa for 60 days. They have been in contact with the local immigration office (not Seoul, where I'm located) and that office told them it MIGHT be possible for me to extend for 60 days. This would save the university the hassle of me getting a new visa.
I've been on the same visa since I started at this public school in 2009. I believe my CRC was national, but I'm not certain.
Is it possible for me to renew my visa for 60 days? If so, how does this process work? Will they need to hold on to my passport while they process my application? If so, how long? I can't very well fly back to Canada without a passport.
Also... is it really that big a hassle for them to apply for a new visa? I would have all the necessary documents (easy to get while back home in Canada).
Thanks kindly!

Get a D10 before your ARC expires. Keep your ARC and status (in case you hope to get an F2/5 before you leave forever). When you return, transfer from your d10 to your e2 with your uni.
