I'm sorry if this has already been posted somewhere, I tried searching for this topic, but had no success. I would like to know how to help keep my heat from escaping out the window, or waking up to it literally raining off the upper part of the window because of all the condensation.
People have recommended I get better curtains. Which I would like to know where to get pre-made curtains it is looking like my previous teacher just cut some holes in some fabric and used them for curtains. My windows are the "twist the handle push out to open" type, is there anything I can insulate them with? It is finally starting to get cold so I would like to fix this problem before I have a ridiculously big heating big.
Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated and for reference if it helps, I am semi handy at repairs. |

You should actually air out your home twice a day to keep the condensation down. Do this morning and night for 5 mins... windows open. The cold air will run your boiler properly. Also, if you are really drafty, you can buy those clear plastic 3M window insulator kits. But you must still exchange air or you will mold up the apt and the air will make you sick. |

thanks so much for the reply, the airing really has reduced the condensation, should I just forget finding heavier curtains? |

I've also used bubble wrap to plug the holes where air can get in. Of course, I have to do more when next month and MUCH COLDER weather roll around. |

I usually keep a small gap at either side of the windows to prevent any build up of condensation. Ofcourse, this might not work for everyone, and at times it does make the place cold. But if use your heating wisely and set it to come on in the morning and in the evening, then your place should be cosy most of the time. |
