I have a new Hogwan that wants to hire me, but my director wont sign the LOR she threatens to write a letter to immigration and I wont be able to get another job in Korea. My new boss is telling me not to worry that I will be able to get a visa. Is this true??? |

You new boss is right, you can still get a new visa without the LOR but you would have to leave the country first, giving your ARC on the way out. That cancels your current visa. The LOR just makes it smoother for a transfer so that you wouldn't have to leave the country. |

Well, you're forgetting something, the documents!! Unless you magically have them under the magic powder, the new employer is going to want the old one to give a LOR. Otherwise, they would have to wait. They could just hire another teacher with the documents instead.
If you really can't work something out and you have to leave, give up on the new school and get another when the documents come in. |

Your old boss is a liar.
Immigration doesn't care if you quit unless you commit some criminal offense before you leave.
The bad news is that without the LOR you won't be able to transfer your visa. You will need a new one (visa run to cancel your current status and another visa run to obtain your new visa).

And to get a visa run, you need all fresh, valid documents. |

There's a way of getting around the LOR and new documents, but there would be a delay of about 4 - 6 weeks before accepting your new job. This might be an option for you considering the alternative of leaving the country and lengthy delay for document processing.
If you finish your job and change your E-2 visa to a D-10 job hunting visa, you don't have to leave the country and your documents remain intact. You can then transfer jobs without an LOR.
It takes Immigration about 30 days to process your request. Cost is about 50,000 won. After applying for the D-10 you would have to stay in country (possibly with a friend) for a month while Immigration processes your visa.
Once Immigration provides you within an updated ARC you can then tell your new employer you are ready for hire, sign a contract, visit Immigration and change your visa status back to an E-2...transferring jobs without an LOR, leaving the country or having to obtain new documents.
Immigration can explain the new D-10 visa more completely by calling 02-1345. |

I've done the E-2 to D-10 to E-2 route and I can confirm it works.
In my case, because I got my first E-2 before the FBI CBC requirement came into force, I still had to get a new CBC.
However, I didn't have to leave the country. I paid 60,000. |

End of contract or with a LOR.
No LOR means starting again from scratch.
