My friend ask me if I know a place to get a taser. Are they legal in Korea? Does anyone know a place where she can get one?

Is your friend out of her mind? Of course they're illegal.

Let me guess, your friend is American?

I find that to be a massive generalization. The USA is third largest country in the world. Per capita you could say "They do love their [pretty much anything] don't they? Bless them."

Well actually, in this case the generalization is probably well deserved. Your second amendment states that you have the right to bear arms. So important is carrying a weapon in your country's psyche that only religious freedom comes before it.

A cursory reading of google informed me that tasers can be legally used only by the police in Korea.

If the simple electrocution of living organisms is your friends fetish, why not suggest to him a field in medicine? If your friend is diligent and discreet, this fundamental portion of Western thought allows the casual electro-fiend to employ his unholy desires in a scientifically beneficial manner.

I don't know why there is so much flak thrown at a woman who wants to defend herself. God forbid women are allowed to carry weapons for their own protection. I know plenty of Korean girls who wish they could carry tazers in their handbags.

Then again, this is a forum where people have blamed rape victims for dressing provocatively.

On a different note, I do have to add that a simple google search would have brought quicker answers.

Get yourself an electric fly swatter, a transformer, duct tape, and a large 9V battery. Those innocent by standards won't know what hit them.

I bet if your mother was about to be assaulted and you could let her have a phone or a tazer, you'd choose the tazer.

ha ha i luv this logic, so if woman can carry tazers in there handbags guess who else can carry them around, rapists! robbers! teenagers!

its like the gun loby saying if mike tyson was raping ur sister wouldnt u want the right to have a gun? uh... id rather get beat up by mike tyson then get in a gun fight with him.

Get a stanley knife / box cutter. Get caught with it, say it's for a school art project.

I mean, they let kids carry them around in Korea, so adults should be okay too.

I don't condone violence, but if anyone threatened you, you could slice his chopper off or scare him away with it.

Well, I'm wasn't advocating tazers should be legal for regular citizens to carry although I wouldn't be against it. If tazers or any kind of weapon were physically available, criminals can acquire them illegally them while regular citizens can't through legal means. What I don't understand is the hatred for someone who just wants to know if it is legal to acquire a particular weapon to protect oneself.

Your argument is very strange man. If a guy was raping your sister and you knew you would have no chance in a physical alteration with him, you wouldn't pick up a weapon of any kind? Or You'd just let him rape your sister? Also, if my or my loved one's life was on the line, then I'd rather get in a gun fight with Mike Tyson than a fist fight. A guy like Mike Tyson can kill you with his bare hands. We aren't talking about street fights here, we're talking about potential life and death situations with criminals.

I wouldn't carry a box cutter for self-defense. If you're gonna pull out a weapon, you need to make sure you're psychologically ready to use it, and you need one that will do enough damage to stop him. If you're gonna use a knife, get something strong and long enough to penetrate deeply. A box cutter is likely to break, it's won't cut or stab deep enough and with adrenaline pumping, he's likely to not even feel it until after. Also a man can force it out of a woman's hands and use it against her.

I'd say pepper spray to the face and run the hell out of there and try to call the cops ASAP.

Actually religious freedoms, press freedoms, speech freedoms and peaceful assembly protections come before gun rights. If we're going to pick bones let's make sure we pick them cleanly.

actually it doesnt take much with a box cutter to potentially kill someone. If you cut their wrist or their neck, it has the chance for them to bleed severely and it takes VERY little pressure or depth to slice the skin open.

That being said, the logic of carrying a box cutter is a two sided coin, what if would be robber/rapist gets it away from u? then he just used your weapon against you

For the benefit of the OP; Are there any self defense weapons available for the general public? Batons, asps, knives, stun guns (the ones you have to press into someone to zap them), etc.?

I have personally seen people selling switchblades of various shapes and sizes at bi weekly neighborhood markets and also on street corners near busy bus stops.
