Hi,
I ran into a little trouble with my background check. Turns out I need one a lot sooner than through the standard procedure. A recruiter recommended apostille.co.kr, but it's outrageously expensive. They said they can get me a background check in 3-4 weeks, which doesn't seem possible.
Has anyone used a service like this? I'd happily pay the money, as outrageous as it is, as long as it's not some scam.
Thanks in advance! |

If you are from the UK then I can help.
That said, I always assumed that background checks are supposed to originate from your own country, not from Korea. |

Oh, no, I'm American, so it usually takes us up to 3 months to get a background check.
I'm not sure how it works, but they say it is an official FBI check, just through a Korean business. |

Your recruiter doesn't know what they're talking about. The website you list is for an apostille, not an FBI check.
Run a search on Dave's for "FBI" or "CBC" and you should find helpful threads. |

Actually, it's for a background check and apostille. I just send them my fingerprints and the application, and they take care of the rest, or so they say.
I've looked everywhere for some information on something like this and found nothing, which is what makes me suspicious. |

Do you understand that you are using a Korean Company to get an FBI Check (Government document). That service looks like a basic we do all the legwork place for the bonus of we charge the arm and leg for it.
In the end it will not be much quicker. They still likely follow the needed route to doing it. Sorry you will have to wait your 2 to 3 months to get your Criminal record. There is no real way to expedite your check. Besides the promises of contacting your congressmen to the confusion of LiveScan (not available in Korea).
Also one other point. I am amazed at the general ignorance of procedure amongst recuriters, immigration, and hagwon owners/managers. I suspect your recruiter is giving what they think is a good procedure to your problem.
Do some more research. |

They can't expedite the process. An FBI-approved Channeler can obtain an electronic copy of your background check within a few days- however that is not something that can be apostilled. You need to submit your application and fingerprints directly to the FBI.
"2. Do you have procedures for expeditious handling?
No. The CJIS Division does not expedite requests; however, an expedited response may be provided by an FBI-approved Channeler....
Note: FBI-approved Channelers cannot provide an apostille. A request for your FBI Identification Record must be submitted directly to the FBI if an apostille is needed."

I just wanted to let everyone know that I ignored everyones advice because I was desperate, and I received my apostilled CBC today, just a little more than 3 weeks later.
It would seem that their service, however they do it, works. |

The FBI CBC could take as little as six weeks and probably although not certainly you will have it in 8 weeks. If you have to have it fast contact your Congressman or Congresswoman, they can definitely expedite the process.
I would check the forums here for FBI CBC's because i hate to tell you this but Korean immigration only accepts FBI CBC's that come directly from the Agency and are apostilled. The CBC that you have looks different and they won't accept it. |

They charged around 450,000 won, which is certainly a lot, but I wouldn't be getting this job otherwise.
It is apostilled and seems to have come from the FBI. I guess I'll let you know if I have any trouble with immigration. I'm mailing all of my documents today. |

You could try writing your Congressman or Senator. They can request an expedited CRC on you behalf. My friend did it and got it in less that 2 weeks.
I just barely wrote my congressman and he sent me a wavier form to fill out to let him get information from the FBI on my behalf.
I guess i'll write back and tell you what happens |

The FBI got my prints Mon. , Dec. 12th.
The actual check was completed on Tues, Jan. 17th.
I happened to email my congressman on the morning of Wed. , Jan 18th. (which I didn't realize was also that SOPA / PIPA protest day , so their office was probably bombarded w/ emails in regards to that)
The completed FBI CBC showed up on my doorstep TWO DAYS LATER, - Friday , Jan. 20th. (I provided them w/ a pre-paid priority mail envelope along w/ my prints.)
The total wait time was less than 6 weeks, thanks to myCongressman.
EMAIL YOUR CONGRESSPERSON ! . It really works, No BS!
One caveat - this is my 2nd FBI CBC w/in the last 6 months.
My last one was in Nov. & my documents are sitting on a desk in the EPIK office somewhere, as I wait ... & wait on a placement that may never come.
BUT the last time , the actual check of my background took 5 weeks, then it sat on a desk in West Virginia for 4 weeks waiting for a rubber stamp signature.
It took 5 weeks this time as well, so once the check is done, your congressperson can get it signed & delivered quicker for you.
" If you don't ask ... the answers always no. " good luck. |
