Which is best in each category. High st fast food chains in SK. I'm taling the cheap and ubiquitous ones you can find anywhere. So I am excluding craze burger and breeze burns, places like that.
Burgers.
BK
Mac d
Lotteria
Pizza
Pizza School
Pizza Maru
6900 Pizza
Any other place you can get a pizza for 6900 won or less.
Sandwiches / subs
Subway
Quiznos
Issaac Toast - that Korean toast place.
Hot dogs
NY hot dog
Steff hotdog.
Chickin
Ne Ne chicken
Kyochon chicken
KFC
Popeye's
That one with the two owls on the logo.
Mexicana chicken
Your local chickin joint.
Or - Any other high st joint selling any other cheap fast food to a wayward stranger on a cold December's evening. |

I'll vote for Pizza Maru and Quiznos. I haven't tried any of the burger, hot dog, or chicken places. |

Out of the places you mentioned I'd have to go with:
Burgers - BK (that's not saying much)
Pizza - Pizza School
Sandwiches / subs - Quiznos (no contest)
Hot dogs - NA since I've yet to have a decent hot dog here.
Chicken - Popeye's |

Come on nohope, subways walks all over quiznos. You don;t prefer subway? Thicker meat, better cheese, more choice of salad filling and variation of oils and dressings...?
I know they can vary from city to city though. The Quiznos in the lotte dept here in jung-ang dong is bloody awful. I've been there twice and felt like asking for my money back both times. I had a 'The traditional' one time and the 'Black Angus' the second time. Both were awful. |

Best:
Burgers: BK
Tacos: Taco Bell
'za: Papa John's (or Maru if you can only afford 6 or 7 chunners)
Sandwiches: Quiznos
Hot dogs: Steff
Worst:
Burgers: Lotteria
Tacos: Lots of competition here, but I'd say Choi's is the bottom feeder
'za: 59
Sandwiches: All kinds of competition here, too, but Paris Baguette makes some raunchy stuff
Hot dogs: Mr. Wow
Stuff I'd like to see in Korea:
Wings: B-dubs (this could make an absolute killing over here)
Sandwiches: Arbys (would love a good beef n cheddar), Potbelly's
Tacos: Qdoba, Chipotle, Baja Fresh
Ice Cream: Dairy Queen
'za: Green Mill, Papa Murphy's
Burgers: Five guys
Breakfast: Perkins
Chinese: Panda Express |

Burgers: BK. White Castle is a guilty pleasure though.
Fries: McD's (Arby's if they had one- curly or homestyle?) Burger King's "new fries" they came out with are pretty atrocious. Burger King continues to fail at fries, just like Pepsi-co can never get a lemon-lime soda quite right.
Taco's: The Bell, I guess? Rather make my own...On a personal note I find the soft taco to be superfluous to the burrito. However, the tamale is not superfluous to the enchilada.
Pizza: Papa John's for the "back home taste". Make my own for a good one. Hello Pesto-Feta Mushroom! Pizza Hut is Pan-fried slop. I can't believe people eat that. Bargain Pizza- Pizza School I guess...
Kebabs: Ankara in Itaewon. Easy.
Burrito's: Tomatillo.
Sandwiches: That Austrian Deli. Never, never Subway. Subway ties with Pizza Hut for utter atrociousness. A loofah split in two and and filled with cold cuts and cheeses that should be served to our soldiers, schoolchildren, and prisoners.
Bakeries: The Yang Woo Young bakery chain smokes Paris Baguette and Tous Le Jours. However Tous Le Jour does have the best Sweet Potato cake of the three.
Donuts: Dunkin Donuts. Krispy Kreme sux. I like a cakey donut, not those fluffy-bready ones.
Coffee: Ediya's coffee is pretty solid. Starbucks is always too asidic. Angel-in-us is alright too. Caffe Bene is consistently mediocre. TomNToms- ho hum.
Chicken: For Boneless Fried Chicken I would have to go with NeNe as you tend to get more white meat and they use curry powder in their breading. However their Snowing chicken was atrocious. KFC has that unique taste that can't be matched. For roasted chicken its gotta be Don Chicken (The one with the crazy drunk looking chef with glasses) Hot Bake or their Boneless Cheese. Best eaten in store.
KimBap: For kimbap itself, I like Kimbap and Spaghetti. They tend to be a bit more "well-being". Kimbap Nara, or Chungook, meh.
Hot Dogs: Not worth the trouble here. Either the dog tastes bad or they don't offer chili, or their chili sux, or they don't offer sauerkraut, or they don't bother to steam the bun beforehand (this is MANDATORY for a good hotdog) or they only offer honey mustard or no fresh chopped onions or whatnot. It's futile.
Ice Cream: The Haagen Das in COEX would be good, but for widespread availability BR destroys Coldstone simply because Coldstone is utter slop. I'd rather eat Dorito's or BK's Fries or Subway than be subjected to Coldstone. I'd rather have Lotteria's Ice Cream than Coldstone. I'd rather have Patbingsoo than Coldstone. Worst Ice Cream Ever. Ever.
If I lived in a bigger city and had a better memory I could rate Mandoo stands...
As for Dosirak's there's a brand out there called Mom. And as a wise man once said "Never eat at a place called mom's."
Noodles: Myeongdong Noodle is alright for Kalguksu. |

He mentioned NeNe Chicken, which comes in at 17,000 won. That's kind of a big price range.
And as someone who lives in a smaller tow and has visited a lot of small towns, the stuff he mentioned is not that ubiquitous.

Pizza School, Pizza Maru, Pizza Hut, McD's, BK, Subway, Quizno's, Steff, Kyochon, KFC, Popeye's, Baskin Robbins are only in the bigger cities.
Two years ago, the town I was in had no Paris Baguette, no Dunkin, no Lotteria, and nothing else on that list. Only KimBap Cheonnguk, Kim Kang Ne, Isaac Toast, and NeNe as "major" chains. The pizza, other kimbap, and bakeries were more popular regionally. |

Really? I have to spell out more obvious stuff today?
1. Gimbap and and mandu are not the types of food we are talking about here. I'm talking migook style fast food. I did not spell it out explicitly as I just assume ppl are birght enough to see my categories and make the connection. Stupid me. Paris baguette is not a fast food joint, it's a sodding bakery.
2. Dude I have out-ruralled most people trust me. Geumsan, chungcheonamdo. They have all the places I mentioned minus the BK, Mc'd, hotdog and subway places.
Anyhow I'm the OP and I gave the choices and categories. Just stick to them. It aint hard. Or ignore the thead or start another. Easy. |

I vote local open air market breaded fried chicken in gooey spicy sweet sauce.
5000won for a small box (serves 2 people) in my neighborhood.
Mac is a *beep*, BK better, 'tho kinda pricey. |

Actually its a wonderful place. Don't knock it till you've tried it. The lack of processed fast food is actually a plus, not a minus. That and the lack of vapid entertainment and time spent commuting is another plus.
It's not like anything major is more than an hour's drive away. It just makes certain things special or treats, rather than staples. I think I win by McDonald's being a treat and not a staple.

Paris Baguette serves sandwiches, burritos, salads, and burgers. It's fast food.
Chicken at NeNe's takes 10 minutes to cook at least and costs 17,000 won. Sorry, but that is neither cheap nor fast fast food.
How is a kebab disqualified? How is a coffee or a sandwich that requires less time than Pizza Hut or NeNe's and is significantly cheaper disqualified? How are mandu stands disqualified?
Sandwiches are fine, but burritos and kebab's or a sandwich from Paris Baguette are right out?
I'll admit my inclusion of the Austrian Deli was wayyy out of line. I drifted off into fantasy zone and got off-topic (been known to happen) Other than that I see nothing wrong with including Tous Le Jour, which is more ubiquitous, cheaper, and quicker than say Pizza Hut or Subway.
Let's see I listed (in bold) the following categories: Burgers, Fries, Tacos, Pizza, Kebabs, Burrito's, Sandwiches, Bakeries, Donuts, Coffee, Chicken, KimBap, Hot Dogs, and Ice Cream.
Sorry I bothered to include Taco's, Kebabs, Donuts, Coffee, Ice Cream and Quick-Service Bakeries in that list. Too obscure, too upscale, too slow, too Korean they be.
You opened it up to the public...

And I see nothing on there that precludes say, dumplings or Kimbap. If you want to say Main St. Fast food here, sorry you're getting dumplings and kimbap.
That and your exclusion Kraze Burger but inclusion of Popeye's is mystifying. I've seen at least 6 Kraze Burgers and 1 Popeye's.
For craps sake, its Fast food. It's like you're going into a tizzy because someone mentions Carl's Jr. or a Sonic and saying "I've never heard of that, that should be banned!!!!" Yeah okay, they aren't in all 50 states, but they aren't unheard of either.
If it bothers this so much, you should have been more specific with your definition. You sound like my coteacher who says "Prepare a lesson. I'm open minded." and then flips that's it not prepared a certain way. |

Because they ARE. Stick to the categories outlined in the OP - hint - the bolded headings - (as you and everyone are invited to ) - or if you're so set on talking about other things, just pull you finger out and start your own thread. Jeez...
Trust me, give me some credit for having those headings and keeping it simple and narrow for a reason. For having thought it through so that it doesn't become another 'yanks are idiots for liking taco bell' arguments or a 'the goji berry and tarragon tarts at _____ are better than the white truffle conret's at _______.'
My way, it can't derail into a flame war. Just leave it or ignore it. |
