|
|
| Im in thailand and some neighboring SE Asian countries for my winter break for about 5 weeks, is it worth it to get travel insurance? I guess something like medical bills are my only worries. If so, where is the best place to get it in Korea for a foreigner. I am not using a travel agent for my trip. |

The airport (ICN). Back wall of the departures hall.

| I've never bought it before. Are there multiple plans, how much does it cost? |

It is pretty cheap. Packages from as low as chunwon per day of travel (basic accident and sudden illness coverage along with flight coverage if you are delayed/miss due to holpitalization.

| I get free travel insurance when I exchange money at my local KB bank, with tellers that know me. The duration of the insurance is proportional to the amount of money I exchange. 300k won gets you the minimum insurance, 2 weeks I believe. I'm guessing it would work for other banks, as well. |

I went to Incheon Airport a few weeks ago and went to get insurance for the booth, and they told me they no longer give travel insurance to foreigners.
Anyone have the same problem recently? |

At least as of a few months ago the Samsung Insurance counter still was.
AIG and the other one weren't, which is a shame because the Samsung coverage was significantly lower for the price.
The reason they gave (true or not) was that the policy document wording in English didn't match the policy document wording in Korea.
I'd always prefer to have insurance where possible, and the prices out of the airport, and some of the online companies (like Global Nomads) are pretty reasonable. Would be a shame to end up in some rank craphole hospital in Myanmar without the means to get evac'ed to Bangkok because you couldn't spare 50 bucks. |

| I had the same problem with the "no foreigners" (new?) rule. This was about 3 weeks ago. I just used worldnomads.com instead, though it was likely pricier. |

It is never worth it, until you need it. |

| I've used World Nomads for multiple trips. I made a small claim after being robbed and they reimbursed the value of the item without any hassles. I'd recommend them. |

| I always comparison shop through squaremouth.com. Never actually used it, but always glad to have it. |

I tried to get insurance at the AIG and Chartis counters at Incheon and they both gave me the brush-of. At the time | |
