|
|
My understanding is, there was a "re-newel meeting" yesterday at the Busan Metro Office of Education.
There were about 100 native speakers there (again my understanding).
It was said, that if you were invited to the meeting, you were being renewed. If you were not invited to the meeting..... well my understanding is, you are not being renewed.
I also heard more cuts are coming in 6 months.
Anyone else know anything about this?

I think a lot of people confuse not being renewed and being laid off.

I remember the first year I came into my province out of some 80 people maybe 10 renewed. And I think 5 wanted to renew, but weren't recommended by their schools. The rest either quit during their year, or just didn't renew. Similar for the next 2 years, but year 4 was when the flood came in. Those were the good old days.
Actually renewing 100 of some 140 people sounds like they plan on keeping NET's around in Busan for the foreseeable future.

According to a friend a memo was passed around saying Busan MOE will be checking up on foreign teachers during the vacation to make sure they are at school and that this time they will be firing teachers who aren't.
They came around and checked last summer on one of the nicest sunny days and at 3:30 in the afternoon (for my school). I was there so no problem but if they're looking to get rid of people this might be one way they'll do it. |

But what if they check and the teacher is on his/her contractually allowed vacation after finishing his or her camps?
Not all teachers take their vacation at the same time. |

Of the 100 people only 70 will be offered new contracts.
They will have to 'audition' for the places by:
1. Making a lesson plan (hand written) in exam conditons in 40 minutes.
2. Watching a pre-recorded open class on TV and writing and hightlighting the strengths and weaknesses of it.
3. Answering 'what if' situations to a panel of 3 education officials - ex - what if 'a child started to choke in your lesson' what would you do?
4. Doing a traditional Korean dance in unison with the other NET tecahers, poor rhythm and/or balance will result in loss of points.....
The final score will be out of 100
30% for each of 1-3
10% for point 4....... |

I hear you can play the traditional Korean drum instead of doing the Korean traditional dance.

You are wrong I spoke to the head of the BOME and you can take choose either a;
Korean traditional dance
K-pop dance (Wonder Girls / Girls Generation)
play the Korean traditional dance.
or if you are a woman and particularly hot you can sit on the BOME's knee and tell him how handsome he is.

Same here. It's so absurd I assumed it was true. |
