Yeah the Korean dancers mimic 'sexy' and 'sensual' but never come anywhere close to achieving it.
It is, to me, a simulcra of the real thing.
Something really lacking in their culture. |

You can blame non-boner-inducing dancing on bad choreography, underage/overage/unattractive dancers, bad outfits, etc.
I find it bizarre and telling that you blame it on "culture". |

They just don't have any moxy to me, that's as far or as telling as I can give you. They're like a suzuki trained violinist, hitting all the right moves technically but not really feelign / expressing it.
We can keep on arguing about it if you like and you can keep on trying to read some deeper motive, or you could just accept that's my take on it and move on.
I'll take a stab that you'll probably go for the former option, sadly. |

why can't he blame it on culture???
that's precisely what I'd blame it on. I have yet to see a Korean female be able to pull off sexy/sensual. They try sometimes, but they fail.
I completely agree w/ Floating World. It's something completely missing in their culture, and one of the things that bothers me most about being here, as the appeal of the K female to me is largely diminished since she can't pull of this basic aspect of something I like to see in a woman. (though I will say the older and more cosmopolitan/sophisticated/travelled she is, the more likely she can pull it off but the odds of any typical K girl under 30 pulling it off are miniscule)
Gyopo females however, do not have this problem. Therefore, it's cultural.

See, this what I'm talking about: people taking (valid) criticism of K-pop and using it justify a self-righteous "tut-tutting" of Korean culture in general.
I guess Korean culture owes you an apology that some of its teen idols can't give you a boner.
Also, are you implying that American equivalents like Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez do indeed successfully mimic 'sexy' and 'sensual' for you? Or do you think American culture is "really lacking" as well? |
Selena's what, 14? 15? way way too young. Cyrus will be interesting, she's entering that age now where she'll be expected to be more womanly/sexy. Britney Spears pulled it off once she turned 19.
btw. I don't consider Selena and Miley to be actual musicians or even singers. I withhold such classifications from people who are known to and listened to by children under 14. (16 tops) . |

Excuse me, but Raffi, The Chenile Sisters, Sesame Street Fever, and my Disney soundtracks all disagree with you.
Kid's station was great back home. Put that on the radio and you'd always end up smiling and happy. Course maybe it was the "assistance"....How can you not love Cookie Monster singing about Cookie Juice?
I'd rather listen to that than half the hipster bands that get thrown about by people who claim they know "good music" but all that stuff is is a bunch of whiners with no melody, no rhythm, no vocal talent, and no clue. Just lyrics that "speak to you". Either that or some blaring metal band that is one emotion: angry.
Seriously, you see those people with the sunglasses and the ipod blasting the anger metal walking around in a "grrrrrrrrr" and you gotta wonder if maybe whatever it is they're trying ain't exactly working. I also love how they claim to be "mature" but sorry, if you walk around in "grrrrrrrr" you're still in H.S. too. How people who listen to music with themes of violence and destruction can claim to be more mature is beyond me. |

themes of violence and destruction are perfectly fine if channeled in the proper way.. for e.g. you're in the gym and you want to psych yourself up for a good kickass workout. Will you put on metal (in your example) or the Cookie Monster? or (excuse me while I puke) Girls Generation?
I do respect your right to listen to whatever you want.
but I'll still call it kiddie music. It's the difference between say a novelist and someone who writes children's books. They're both technically writers and authors.
btw. themes in music don't particularly concern me. It either sounds good or it doesn't. What I listen to at a particular time depends on my mood at the time.
btw. in regards to the overall question, I think K Pop is getting "better". I can honestly say there are several recent songs that I like, but those are the needles in the haystack full of crap. it's worth nothing that I would say a similar thing about American "pop", it's just that there are more "needles" there. |

| you will notice a lot of the more recent K Pop has the American beat/songwriting influence, rather than the typical (especially when it comes to their girl groups) Euro pop stuff which makes me heave chunks. |

Yeah, Rahul, I'm pretty much the same. However, I do hate this bubbly shit that seems to have dominated the past several years.
I don't know if some of the old stuff could be classified as Kpop, but my wife and I watch a program on Sunday nights (not sure of the channel) and some of the music is world class (mostly jazzy or cut your throat and want to die stuff, but very good). |

notice how when the Korean media has a need for sexy, sultry, sensual and sophisticated, they don't use a korean female.
they use Jessica Gomez.
perfect example - Cass commercial with Lee Min Ho. |

Try comic books and children's book authors.

Some of us listen to both. Depends on the mood and situation.
Add to the fact that as much as I love Led Zeppelin, I can't stand being one of those people who has a 5 CD rotation that they always play and its the same old same old.... |

comic books, such as superhero comic books have an audience that goes well into the 40's and beyond, so I have no issue with that whatsoever.
Children's books as well as children's shows, like Barney, Sesame Street and Cookie monster and such, I'll leave to you
with one exception. I DO like this children's bedtime story:
