My recent experience with Origin EA:
you: I placed the order for SWTOR. Why is my order still "pending"?
Avinash:
Please allow me some time to investigate the issue you are experiencing.
Avinash:
Please note that As your order is fresh it will take 24 hours to settle.
you:
24 hours? The game launches before then
you:
So, I won't be able to play until a day after the launch?
Avinash:
You place the fresh order
you:
Its a digital order, why is there a wait time?
Avinash:
it will take some time
Avinash:
to process the order
you:
I didn't write a check. I paid with a credit card
you:
Why is it 24 hours to process?
Avinash:
I understand it is digital order but the amout is to settle via bank
Avinash:
*****amount****
you:
When you buy groceries with your credit card, do you wait 24 hours before you can take them home?
you:
Do you?
you:
If you use your credit card at a hotel, do you have to sleep outside for 24 hours before you can get the room?
you:
Please explain to me why it takes 24 hours on EA Origin, and instant anywhere else in the world
you:
Steam does not take 24 hours. Xbox Live is not 24 hours. Blizzard is not 24 hours
There may be a problem communicating with Avinash. Please wait while your chat is transferred to another EA Expert.
What a bunch of crap. |

I can't even order it. I tried hotspot shield but I just get "Payment Authorization Failed." Apparently a very common problem and basically I'm simply screwed. If anybody finds a way around it let me know. |

I got that "Payment Authorization Failed" last night. Tried it again this morning and my payment went through, but I'm stuck on "Order Pending" |

Giving it a shot, we'll see how it goes.
Update: Order went through, but it took them 12 hours to "verify" it and now they're out of keys. Gotta wait til they restock. I'll update then. |

I just tried that, after going through their obnoxious verification routine they are telling me the CD keys are out of stock, how about telling me that BEFORE I buy it, these jerks are never getting my business again |

Order finally went through, I'm all set up, but I have a question. Is anybody else getting horribly throttled while dl'ing / patching? With hotspot turned off my dl rate starts at around 400-500kbps and then plummets to around 50kbps. With hotspot on I maintain a steady 150kbps. I can only assume I'm being throttled by the swtor servers for dl'ing outside the US. |

One of my friends did the beta way back in summer. I watched him play a bit, but wasn't too excited about it, and then I promptly forgot about it for about 6 months.
Fast forward to a week ago, when I saw one of the trailers on a gaming sight, at which point I was immediately blown away. Then I found the forums, where people were talking about something called "early access."
Well, when I figured out what that was, I had to have the game, so I pre-ordered it and paid the $5 for early access. My download started off at something like 700k then tricked down to around 300k. In all, it took something like 12 hours or so.
Anyway, finally got logged on, and have been playing as much as I am able. The game is simply incredible. Sure, it borrows heavily from WoW with the talent system, but I don't mind because I happen to like that system. However, where it differentiates itself from WoW is that the quests have a phenomenal storyline, and that your class quest starts at level 1 and continues to level 50.
The combat system is extremely dynamic. There is no auto-attack, so you have to rely on your abilities which have a mix of cast times and cooldowns so you have to use a bit of intelligence in how you manage a battle.
The crafting system is also far and away the most user-friendly I've ever seen in a game. You'll acquire companions on your journey and the ones who aren't grouped with you can be sent on missions to acquire materials for you, or to make items.
The graphics and animations are also very good. I find myself losing track and just watching battles unfold, just to see the moves the characters are making.
So, bottom line: is this game a WoW killer? That would be a pretty bold statement. I will say this, I enjoy this game far more than I ever liked WoW. I find myself playing more to finish the quests than to get exp and level, the levels just happen to come as you complete your quests.
If you're at all a fan of Star Wars, mmorpgs, or even RPGs, I would heavily recommend this game. I'm already planning my next class after I hit 50, mainly because I want to experience the different storylines, which, again, are excellent.
Oh, one final point. I had originally (before I actually *played* the game) thought that the voice-overs for all the quests were a bit of a gimmick. What I find now is that they add to the immersion in a way that text-based questing doesn't. This game really draws you into the story. That, plus solid mechanics, make this game absolutely must-own. |

Also a bit of info I've gleaned from reading the forums.
In case you are wondering about classes and what they do:
Essentially, there are 4 main classes, and each class has 2 advanced classes, so a total of 8 advanced classes. What you need to know is that there are melee classes and ranged classes.
Melee classes can be specced to melee DPS or they can be specced to tank. (With one exception.)
Ranged classes can be specced to ranged DPS, or heal.
So, what this means, is that no matter what your original class is, you've got the flexibility to choose your role, and should you get tired of it, you can spec at least one other role for yourself.
Edit: just to provide an example.
I started Sith Inquisitor. My choice at level 10 was either Sith Sorcerer (Palpatine) or Sith Assassin (Darth Maul.)
The Sith Sorceror can be specced ranged DPS (Force lightning! YES!) or healing (boo!).
The Sith Assassin can be specced melee DPS (double-ended lightsaber! YES!) or tank (also double ended lightsaber!)
In any case, the other primary classes also have this flexibility. I personally think it's great game design. |

I was told the advanced classes are permanent. You can't be a Sith Sorceror and then change your mind later. You would basically have to roll a new character to be the Sith Assassin. |

The Advance Classes are permanent. But you have 3 skill trees to distribute your talent points into melee/tank/ranged/dps depending on your advance class, and those points can be re-done. |

How many of you guys have got the game now? What is the easiest way to get it here? I used offgamers but its a bit of a pain and they estimate 5 days for delivery of an electronic CD key now. I want more of my friends to play but they are reluctant to use offgamers.
I got my copy up and running. I played for a long afternoon sessionand I now at level 11. Pretty fun so far, I like the story missions and I feel like my character is kinda powerful (just how he plays, not in actuality) which is nice. I always felt like I sucked in WOW no matter what level I was. |

Been playing for a week now and game is a blast. Only problem with being in Korea is shitty ping. Ranges from 200 during slow times to 400+ during Korean prime-time. Anybody know of any proxy services popping up for swtor yet? |
