 Posted: Thu Dec 22, 2011 5:55 am Post subject: Resigned but now told I have to leave in 6 days |

I resigned from my role earlier this month however my director told me that it would take at least 2 months to find a replacement which I agreed to.
However this afternoon my director asked me when I could move out of my apartment and would Monday (Dec 26th) be possible because the new teacher needs an apartment. I then asked would I have to leave the school Monday? No was the reply, you still need to work until Wednesday evening. Haha So where do I live for 3 days, ... umm (no answer). She then asked was could I leave Wednesday. I said let me think about it and tell you tomorrow.
Is it possible for her to make me move out within a week, legally speaking?

Move out = no.
Get fired on short notice = maybe.
It depends on how long you have been working there.
If less than 6 months = yes.
If more than 6 months = no.
If you got the 60 days in writing you can hold her to it but it will be a labor office fight. - change your locks ASAP if that is your plan.

This is only my personal opinion on the matter, if you are the one who is leaving and there are only 3 days in question then it would only cost about 100-120,000 won to stay at a cheap hotel. I even stayed at one for as low as 25,000 and it was decent.
The main issue here is what will you do after you leave? Work at another school? Did you get a letter of release? |

| This situation and many other reasons are why people just pull midnight runs. Hagwon directors will screw you if they can especially if its convenient to them. |

Move out = no.

Thanks ttompatz for the advance, is there anything online maybe from the labor office stating I don't have to move out.
I don't have the 60 days in writing but she also doesn't have a letter of resignation from me.
I don't need a lot more time as I'm going back home. Just having only 6 days over Christmas makes life tricky. |

If you are going home, then you have a pay issue. If you cause a stink now, will she pay? That will just mean you will have to stay much longer than 3 days to collect. Think about the consequences. |

Change the lock now. Otherwise it's VERY likely that you'll come home to find your stuff out on the curb.
Then tell your boss that you'll move out when you get paid, preferably in cash.
You can also go to immigration and get an extension to your visa. Then you have as much time as you like to go home (or fight them at the labor office). |
