Good on the guy! Watch 6 seconds in when he's about to whack one of the stewards as fell with a rocky punch - ha ha

the video is at the bottom of the page.

Your title is flawed

I dont know, kicking a guy whilst he is on the floor looks like attacking someone to me?

Defense initially, and then attack...

Either way the guy shouldn't have been on the pitch in the first place!

But he was sent off for attacking someone - hence my title!

Dangerous situation!! The goalie had no idea what the guy might do. In an professional football game some idiot ran on to the field ran toward the quarterback of one team yelling something. A humongous lineman grabbed him lifted him and planted him into the turf! When asked about the incident the lineman said my job is to protect the quarterback! he also said Ididnt know whether the guy was armed or not. As ugly as it was the goalie was in a situation where it might be better to overreact a little bit than something like the Steffie GRaf thing happen.

He went too far whilst kicking the man when down and not walking away and carrying on when his teamates stepped in. This brings the image of the game, the team and the sport's representatives into disrepute (lord knows the fans do this enough already.)

The next knucklehead to think about storming
the pitch might practice some prudence.

Don't really think the guy was a thug, just a lil'
beach that got his ass handed to him like
he deserved.

Player may have gone a little too far, but I like his style.
Keep off the pitch!

The situation is the reverse of the title!
The "fan" attacked first. Goalie was responding to an attack. The guy got what he asked for by going on the field and attacking in the first place.

What's the goalie supposed to do, run into the goal and cover up like a turtle and cry?

Sometimes the best defense is a good offense.

It's not like those were full on power kicks to the head or something. A few minor bruises on the legs at most. If he let him back up, wouldn't the "fan" just attack again? The goalie's a soccer player, not a boxer or judo player, of course he's going to defend himself with a few kicks.

Maybe the goalie mistook him for the ball.
