I hear there's a bit of a debate going on back in the Western countries about which term is "CORRECT"
Which do you prefer to use? |

I know "Happy Holidays" is the PC term, and that is fine with me since it covers everything.
I must admit though, that I do like hearing a "Merry Christmas"
There was a great line in an episode of "30 Rock" last year--Jack Donaghy handed out Christmas cards. On the outside it said "Merry Christmas", and on the inside it read "happy holidays is what terrorists say".
I guess you'd have to watch the show to see how amusing the line was.
Merry Christmas!! |

Quick question: Have you (OP) or anyone else actually ever encountered anyone at all that was 'offended' by the term 'Merry Christmas'? Ever? Because if anyone ever said anything like that to my face about how I greet during the holiday season, I would just tell them to shove off.
Why would you or anyone for that matter care what other people think? Is this another example of the 'pussification' of our society? We care too much what other people think. Don't worry about what anyone thinks. Do what you want to do. If you're worried about offending people all the time, how can you live your life with any amount of self respect? |

I've spent the last 10 Christmases in Korea... so ,nope, it hasn't been an issue for me.
Thus me posting this poll. I was curious if people actually cared about it. |

I agree with you except that the offended these days make a trip to the HR department of your company and then you might have to do some sensitivity training and get a stain on your personnel file. Or parents complain to the board of education and schools get reprimanded and careers ruined. |

I don't mind Merry Christmas, but as a firm proponent of separating church and state, I'd much prefer that official institutions and such would mostly use Happy Holidays during the season.
What I'd call the "pussification" of our society, in America at least, is the wealthiest, most populous, and most powerful group in the country constantly screaming and crying that their holiday is being destroyed every year because some people/institutions choose to say Happy Holidays and that December isn't Bible study at public schools. |

it's a matter of inclusion. america is a nation of diversity, both ethnically and religiously (or a-religiously). i don't think that non-christians get offended by "merry christmas," they just feel left out. there's a lot of people that don't celebrate christmas or aren't christian that still shop during "the holidays."
there is a reason it's referred to as "the holidays," after all. how welcome do you think that makes jewish people feel when they have hanukkah going on?
plus, it's just convenient to say "happy holidays." it covers everything, so you don't have to say "happy hanukkah, merry christmas, happy kwanzaa, happy new years!"
it's just more delusional notions about the persecution of christians in the united states.
all this said, i LOVE christmas. |

If you feel "left out" by someone saying "Merry Christmas" to you, you're just as stupid as people who think there's a war on Christmas. Just say "thanks" and move on. It's all a bunch of made-up arbitrary nonsense, anyways. |

Everybody should just say what makes them most comfortable. I say merry christmas, you say happy hanukkah, atheists say happy tinkle, anyone that wants to express their diversity PLEASE do so, and everyone is covered.
It's so simple, yet everybody wants to get all butthurt over what OTHER people say. |

I am not Christian, but I do teach at a school where we have religious Muslim and Jewish students and teachers, as well as non-religious teachers and students. In class we sang some Christmas songs and I skipped all the ones that had anything to do with Jesus or "The Lord".
HR called out a well-liked administrative assistant for writing "Merry Christmas" on a campus-wide memo, and she was upset, going on a rant about how the United States is a Christian country. Today, she wished me a Merry Christmas as I was leaving to start my vacation.
I just wish I didnt have to deal with so much Christmas stuff, or people assuming that I am a Christian. I shrug it off, even though it bothers me from time to time.
I use "Happy Holidays", because there are a lot of religious and non-religious holidays the vast majority of people I come into contact will celebrate. |

Including everyone is what has made the "participation generation" that we have today. It's a joke.
If it's not your religions holiday then why feel left out? I don't feel left out at all when Chuseok, Sullal (spelling?) or Buddha's birthday rolls around here in Korea. I just enjoy the days off that come with them
Christmas marks the birth of Christ. This makes it a Christian holiday.
This would be like saying "Happy Birthday" to someone when it's my birthday. |

You know, I don't think the whole "War on Christmas" thing was meant to prevent all us heathens from getting offended. I think it was a Christian attempt to reassert their authority over the holiday, reminding us all that it's all about Christ, and if you don't accept him into your life, well, no presents for you.
To me Christmas is already far more than a religious holiday. It's a special time of year that's all about family and friends, maybe some time off work, and a whole bunch of corny decorations--nothing about God, unless you deify Santa (which I think would be a smart move for Christians; drop that Holy Spirit from the Trinity already). |

Even those corny decorations have to do with Christ. Santa a was a real guy. And I have no idea what you mean by dropping the Holy Spirit |
