| How long does it usually take to be enrolled after beginning work? I went to the doctor a few days ago and was billed 17000 won for a cold. (In and out of the office in 5 minutes) The only advice was for me to see another doctor. Who can I call to check on it? |

It usually takes a couple of weeks after you get your ARC.
NOTHING can happen until you have your ARC (no medical or pension).

You can go back when you have the medical card and get the difference refunded. (I have done this myself twice.) |

This subject is too big to be exact about everything. As usual, Ttompatz did a great service by giving the link to the NHIC. That is the place to go for anything specific.
That said, from my experience, if you are an American, you will be very happy with Korean Medical Insurance. It covers more and cheaper than just about anything you can get in the U.S.
On the other hand, if you are a Brit, I've been told that British prices for some medical care is better than in Korea. Don't know exactly but I have been told that.
I have what has been designated an "incurable" disease and because of it the Korean health system has slashed all my medical costs by 50%. I can't imagine anything so nice out of the American system. So, I don't complain about it.
It is a tiered system here. First, you go to a local hospital. If they cannot treat you, they will fill out a document and you can go to a "major" hospital and you can get medical care at a discounted rate. If you go straight to the "major" hospital, you will have to pay a premium. If cost matters to you, my advice is go to a local doctor (quality varies greatly) and ask that he or she admit you to a major hospital (quality usually very good) and the insurance should cover it or at least you won't have to pay a premium. Don't ever go directly to a major hospital unless it is a medical emergency - you will have to pay extra. |

I have separate cancer insurance in addition to the national plan. It's about 100k/month for me. But...I'll be here for a while, so I think it is a reasonable precaution.
My husband has three different kinds of health insurance. He was in the hospital for a week with pneumonia last year, and he actually MADE money. |
Yes, same here when I had surgery. On top of that, I get most of the premium I paid back after a certain amount of time. |

It is not the states (where you pay inflated western prices for 3rd world health care).

Lol. |
I agree that is a total BS quote. America was, until the socialist became President, the front-runner in medical science. |
sure it was. In medical "science". Still is. Not in medical treatment.
Gulf Arabs who typically pay in CASH no longer come to the US for medical treatment except in the most unusual complicated circumstances. They go to Thailand.. or.. to feel super safe.. Germany. They get 1st world, 1st class medical are in Germany for about a THIRD of US prices.
that's what happens when you get Republican ideas about the "business" of health care. Also check what happened to college prices, the "business" of education and tons of people with huge debts to pay and mcjobs or no jobs awaiting them.
The next nickel I pay into the fraudulent US health care system will be done only with an inordinate amount of kicking and screaming.
p.s. you can get London based global health insurance for about 900 USD a year, that will guarantee you top flight medical care almost anywhere in the world.. EXCEPT the US (because of preposterous US prices) |
Please tell us more about this London based 900 bucks a year coverage. Is there a website and a name? |
