|
|
I don't live in Seoul, but am visiting tomorrow and hope to find a pharmacy where I can pick up 3 months of Nuva Ring contraceptive. I already have the prescription, but can't find a pharmacy that stocks it where I live.
Any suggestions?? |

Wow, that is a bit of a crap shoot, as the neighbourhood pharmacies typically only stock medicines that the clinic doctors in the direct vacinity to them specify, as well as your typical OTC drugs and vitamins. The best thing I can suggest is to concentrate at the pharmacies adjacent to the big hospitals, such as Severance and Samsung. I learned this lesson the hard way when I discovered that the only place I could find my medication was at a hospital pharmacy and not a regular neighbourhood pharmacy.
You could also call around at the various OB/GYN offices that offer English speaking services and see if they prescribe the Nuva Ring and stop by their respective pharmacy as well. You can check the OB/GYN thread on the FAQ's page for more information if you choose to go that route. |

Well, maybe you need to go see a specialist. Some medication (anything that might be embarrassing to the patients (I know, but people are easily embarrassed here, and gossiping is the other, other national sport)) are only distributed by specialists, not pharmacies.
It's 누바링 in Korean, by the way. It's distributed by Hankuk MSD, a subsidiary of Merck.

Good luck. |

UPDATE:
I had heard elsewhere on this forum that Dr. Sung prescribed it, so I checked the pharmacies by her office and SUCCESS!
For anyone else looking, you can get the Nuva Ring (with prescription) from Moon Pharmacy across the street from Dr. Sung's office in the Liberty building in Hannam-dong.
Copied from another post:

Dr. Sung's Obstetrics and Gynecology
2 floor, Liberty Building
Hannam-dong
Yongsan-Gu
Seoul 140-210
This is right on the corner of 5-dae-ro (oh-dae-ro) and from Itaewon, it's about a 2-3,000 won taxi ride. It's very close to Hannam market.
The nearest subway stop is Hannam, but it will take you 15-20 minutes to walk there, at least. It's on the dark blue line, line number 1. The taxi's the best way to go, in my opinion. The Hyundai building is pretty obvious, right on the corner, and there's a Seattle's Best coffee on the first floor.

I did, in fact, use a taxi from Itaewon, and it was 3,200 won. My driver had to call the office for directions, though, so keep the number handy. |

The prescription fee at Dr. Sung's is 15,000 won. I got my prescription (with National Insurance) from a neighborhood gyno (in Gwangju, jellanamdo) for 3,500 won.
Three months of Nuva Ring was 56,000 won at Moon pharmacy. I would assume that one month would only be 18,000~20,000 won.
Sure, it's more expensive than the pill here, but oh so worth it. All daily pills make me sick, and also, you don't have to remember to take the pill everyday. It's wonderful. I highly recommend it, even with all the hoops I've been jumping to get it here in Korea.
Good luck! |
