Sorry.
Really, sorry. I know these threads come up all the time and I went back a couple pages and the search function is seriously awful. Hopefully this is simple enough to answer in a couple of replies.
I'm a little confused about the new document process. It would be easier if I was working with a recruiter/hagwon, but I'm just getting my documents sorted while I'm at home before heading back to Korea.
Anyhow, from what I understand the documents you need now are:
1) Transcripts
2) Background Check
3) Diploma
4) Passport Copy
I'm just a little confused as to what I need to do with them. When I got my first visa 2 years ago, I had to have my background check notarized by a public notary and then the consulate. From what I've been reading, now you need to have your transcripts, a copy of your diploma, and a copy of your background check verified by the consulate. Do you still need to use a notary service or do you just bring the documents to the consulate? Hopefully it's the latter.
Anyhow, any help is really appreciated. |

| Your degree has to be notarized. CBC will have a stamp on it from the issuing police service. Pretty easy. |

Does the CBC need to be notarized as well or just stamped by the consulate?
And do I need to do anything with the transcripts?
Thanks for the reply! |

CBC will be stamped by the issuing authority ie: RCMP, OPP. SQ will be fine. Do not open your transcripts.
Never, ever, ever open the transcripts.

1) "official" transcripts issued by the university in sealed envelops for the consulate. These will be requested by the consulate in Canada as part of your degree certification process.
2) passport (just photo copies) for everything except the actual visa (original passport needed for that).
3) Photo copy of your degree, certified as a true copy by a notary and then certified by the Korean consulate in Canada for use in Korea.
4) CBC (original). This must also be certified by the Korean consulate in Canada.
For your job applications, just send scans until you are ready to make the visa confirmation application (at that point immigration needs the hard copies of the CBC, degree copy and contract with your signature).

Thanks a ton. I really appreciate the replies, especially given the frequency of these types of questions.
So just to be completely sure (I'm only asking because I'm going to the notary in the morning), I only have to have a copy of my degree notarized? Or both the degree/cbc? And does the consulate need my transcripts now even if I'm not applying for a visa?
I'm flying back to Seoul on Saturday so I only have tomorrow and Friday to wrap things up. I also do not have a contract and I'm not waiting on a job. Just getting things ready for next Feb/March if that matters.
Thanks again! |

I have been living in Korea for a little while. I have a copy of my degree notarized by my lawyer and it was sent to me. However, I called the Korean immigration office and they said it also needs to be signed by the Korean consulate in Canada. Do you actually have to do this even if you are living in Korea?
Also, this notarized copy of the degree is three years old. I had one extra made. Probably won't work. Has anyone else passed in something that was over a year old?
I am going home for a vacation soon so I can get this done back home if needed. |

You need the transcript to get your degree copy certified at the Korean consulate in Canada. They are not needed for the actual visa application.
The CBC does not need to be notarized before certification by the consulate.
K-consular certification of your documents MUST be done in Canada.

Age won't matter (for the degree copy) as long as it was certified as a true copy by the notary AND the notary is in the jurisdiction of the consulate that will certify the copy.
