|
|
My mother in law has a new laptop. When you turn the computer on the screen is nice and bright. But then it switches to a dark shade. How can I get the computer to stay bright permenently? Thanks. |

Well, my guess is that anyone with an IQ over 10 would know to take it back where it was bought and get a new one that works correctly. |

Did you check the power management setting? Laptops dim after 15 min default. |

Helpful statement there Dr.
Dazzed's idea is probably spot-on. Most laptops have three power management settings, high performance, balanced, and power saver. The balanced and power saver settings automatically dim the screen. But the power management settings don't kick in until Windows is fully booted. Which usually means the screen-dimming would happen about 15-20 seconds after you see the desktop.
However, these settings should only be active when the laptop is running on battery power. Have her click the battery icon in the lower right corner of the screen and check which setting it is on. |

As helpful as a fart in a spacesuit................
As Dazzed said, the solution lies in the Power Options, which are accessed from the Control Panel.
Laptops dim their screens automatically to save battery use. It's not a fault. You can set it to not dim if you like. |

A lot of laptops have a brightness control via the keyboard.
my dell makes me hold down the "FN" button (function button?) and then press the up or down arrow if I want to make it brighter or darker |
