Even with re-reading your post, I'm a bit confused--are you talking about the actual FBI Criminal Background Check, or the APOSTILLE which you have to get on the CBC after you receive it?

I've heard of people calling their congressperson to try to expedite the Apostille process, but that you can't rush the FBI process.

If you can now use them for both, hooray!

The actual FBI check. I don't know if I was lucky... my congressperson is one of the most famous in the country and has a lot of power because she is good friends with President Obama. I wrote her a nice email and she started working on my case within two days.

To all the naysayers: I am in direct contact with the woman who is going to actually do the check for me once she receives it and she is very helpful. You too can be in contact with her if you contact your congressperson and your congressperson does their job.

I don't know why everyone is being so negative about my positive post. This is not directed towards the quoted poster.

Well, i see from your other posts that you are not a newbie to Korea...which makes your enthusiasm for GEPIK even more baffling! Shocked

Good luck to you!

Um...

anyone who has gone through a hell hagwon in Gangwon-do and has been physically assaulted by their hagwon director would be excited by a GEPIK job on the border of Seoul.

I'm not sure people are being negative as such. Just skeptical. It's possible you were lucky on this. A lot of applicants mention in the EPIK Spring 2012 thread calling their congressman to no avail. Their CBCs still took 8 weeks.

Also, in both this thread and your loophole thread, you mention how "this worked" before the fact. If everything works out how you anticipate, then, yeah, we're curious to know. But even then, I'm not sure many of us anticipate things will go the same way for us...in which case your thread will come across more as rubbing it in our faces than it will providing us with encouraging information.

All the same, I hope it works out for you. And if your congressm...congresswoman causes the FBI to get your CBC back to you in significantly less than 8 weeks, I'd definitely like to know about it.

In my loophole thread I didn't mention anything about being sure that it worked. I mentioned about how my RECRUITER SAID it worked for other people and that I just wanted to try it.

Anyway, I definitely was not trying to rub it in your faces as I understand how frustrating the process is and I don't want anyone else being frustrated if they don't have to be! I'll let you know how it goes when I receive it. It just doesn't hurt to call your congressperson.

Here is what I did:
- Call the congresswoman's office
- They send me the privacy release
- Write a letter explaining the situation and politely requesting for it to be expedited
- Fax the privacy release, the letter, and a copy of my contract to the office
- Call to confirm that they have started the case. Keep calling until they state they have started the case.

A day or two after they started the case, that woman from the FBI called me.

I am just encouraging everyone to try it. I'm not trying to rub it in anyone's face.

Geez-
All of us who have had to go through or are going through this process are in different situations.
Some people may be desperate--they could lose a potential job, go through all of their savings, not be able to pay bills, or whatever if they don't receive their CBC on time.
Others may not be so desperate--they live with their parents, don't have any real debt; they matter too, of course, but they may not have as much to lose.
I think the OP is just saying there is a bit of possible hope for those who are desperate.

That's great that they let you cut in line while others had to wait, some in spite of calling their congressman. Awesome.

You totally misconstrued both of those things. I wasn't trying to rub it in anyone's face that I got it expedited. I am trying to encourage people to contact their congresspeople so they hopefully can too. And when I said "I laugh in your face!" I was speaking to the skeptics.

Just letting everyone know that I got my FBI check in the mail today. About 10 business days after my congresswoman started working on my case and 5 weeks since I sent the original one in.

Good luck.

Calling your congressman to get your FBI check expedited is absolutely possible. However, I urge people to only do it if it is necessary. Here are a few pointers to get it expedited:

-send your packet to the FBI through FedEx so you have a tracking number to give to your caseworker

-repeatedly email/call your representative if necessary

-fill out a privacy release form so your representative can contact the FBI on your behalf (you can find them on your reps website)

-explain your situation honestly, it's never a good idea to lie to the FBI or your caseworker

And again, I urge only people who absolutely need the FBI check expedited to try this method.

I don't quite understand why all the concern about caution. This isn't a matter of someone chipping their nail and then calling 911.

It's necessary to get the CBC for a job in Korea. Every congressperson should be aware of this and working to expedite the process as a matter of good relations with other countries.

Again, this is not an emergency situation.
