Hi guys! You may have already seen my other posts with regards to my current situation. I am in the UK with my South Korean wife and we are looking to head back to Korea (I won't go into details)...anyway, we had a bad experience in Korea in the past and because of many things (particularly my hakwon), I did a midnight run in order escape...

Following this I am looking to return. I know a great deal about certain things, however I'm not quite sure how to go about the reapplication process. I possible could you answer the following questions for me? Thank you in advance!

1. I understand that I would be able to return to Korea following a midnight run. I didn't commit any criminal act and thus immigration would grant me another E2 VISA. I have already contacted Korean immigration and they say my VISA has been cancelled. So, in terms of immigration, I am able to return to Korea...is this accurate?

2. OK so I can return. I phoned and emailed recruiters and they replied by telling me that it would be difficult to get another E2 VISA. One recruiter went down the road of it doesn't matter about how you were treated, it matters that you ran out on your students. He said the local education board would not grant me another E2 VISA.

3. So the way I see it, the problem I am having is actually declaring that I have done a midnight run. Would a better approach be to lie about this? Maybe I should just wipe those 6 months from my CV?

4. If I was to lie, would the school be able to discover the truth of my previous midnight run upon VISA application and everything may fall through?

I'm just looking for some advice. Thanks again.

1) yes.

2) untrue unless you bolted from a public school position. If you bolted from a PS then a hagwan is your only option.

3) immigration will see the discrepancy on your resume. It may become an issue there.

4) yes, but unlikely.

5) If you are married to a Korean, just get an F2. All the crap disappears.

Why post two threads about this?

As Ttom said in the other thread...get a F2.

As I said in the other thread, I do not have the means to attain an F2. This is why I am posting a specific request for information about how to go about attaining an E2 Visa again. Can we stick to constructive advice please instead of people of this forum constantly picking apart everything that I write and judging every single thing that I say or reference...it's like being back in Korea again...(this is a joke by the way)

Good post Stew!!! You're pretty remarkable for your age I must say!! I foresee a bright future for a man who expresses himself so well, in the face of adversity..

I'll bet your gal is a pretty hot piece as well.

I think what poster Ttompatz is saying is that the smallest hurdle might be acquisition of an F2. The other options seem less attractive at this stage.

To me first line of inquiry would be: Can you not register your marriage in Korea from the UK?

Once legally married in K, then you can grab the F2 free of all the further silly question.

If you can't get firstmentioned done, do you have the monies for both of you to get to K and register the marriage there, maybe inveigling some kind employer along the way?

Yes, getting an F2 visa is not that hard. Register your marriage in Korea. If that's too complicated for you, get married again. No wedding reception necessary. Just go to your Gu or Dong office and fill out the paperwork. You'll need two witnesses. They don't need to show up. Bring their national ID cards and their certified seals.

Sure..
E2: Apply for a job , submit documents when you get an offer, end of story.

Your midnight run is irrelevant at this point unless there is a major issue (for example if you left owing your school a significant amount of money they could have lodged a complaint but this is highly unikely)

So get your papers together and start applying.

Which documents: check out the kimmi site or ask the recruiter you will deal with.

No one is judging you by the way, but you did ask two very similar questions in two threads. I figured you got an awnser to the E2 question in that other thread as well...sorry.

I personally do not see why you do not have the means to get a F2 visa. Your spouse (unless I am mistaken) is a Korean citizen. She does require some paperwork but its not typically hard to obtain for a Korean citizen.

The procedure is as follows:

F-2 visa

You will need the following documents:
■Spouse's birth certificate (Joomin deungrok deungbon - 주민등록등본)
■Family tree certificate (Hojeok deungbon - 호적등본)
■Reference certificate (Shinwon bojeungseo - 신원보증서) <signed and stamped by lawyer>
■Spouse's job certificate (Jaejik jeungmyoung seo 재직증명서)
■Marriage certificate (접수증)
■Your and spouse's ID card
■Your passport
■80,000 won worth of stamps (50,000 for change of visa, 30,000 for F2)

So with all that good luck to you.

Oh and congrats to you stew you now have a fanboy on here (shifty) who thinks you are a remarkable young man and whose wife is a "hot piece". You should feel proud or something. Wink

You would see why if you hadn't glossed over his other thread where he explains the reason.

You were too much in a rush to climb into him than bother with finnicky detail. Now we all once again have to have patience with you as you play blind man's buff.

Hope next year will be better for you, the only way is up.
