i currently have 8-9 months left on a 2 year contract with SK but was thinking of getting a newer model. so my question is this...what kind of penalty do u incur if u want to break your current contract? in this situation is it best to switch providers or stay with same company. they both offer the phone im thinking about getting.

my understanding is if you pay off the remaining balance of your current handset and maybe a small upgrade fee and agree to either pay for a new phone upfront or a new instalment plan, you cna go get one now...my bill says i still owe 322000 on my galaxy s i had more than a year and i want a new one desperately (i hate myself for it but i want to cross to iphone)

I quit my old plan early to get a better phone. They're charging me an extra 15'000won a month until my old plan is up. I imagine the monthly amount would vary depending on the plan you are opting out of.

To keep the same carrier, you will need to pay off the old installment plan. Whatever they say you owe on the phone must be paid off entirely. Then you own the phone, and can sell it..whatever you need to do to attempt to recoup some of that cost.

If you don't mind switching carriers, play the field a little bit and see what kind of deals you can get. You more than likely won't get far with KT since they recently enacted their Fair Price plan, as it puts the deals directly in the customer's hands and not the dealer's. Which can be good and bad for the customer.

If the phone has a good profit, the dealer can play ball a little bit, which sometimes means they can pay your installment fee. Some may ask to keep your phone, but..that's more between you and the dealer.

If you're looking for a company to pay your remaining installment cost, your best bet is to test the waters with SK and LG right now. KT phones don't bring the dealers alot of profit.

So how can one find the remaining balance owed? I get my bill texted to me and not in the mail.

You can ask at a local shop, or call the customer service help line. I know for certain KT and LG offer customer service in English, I can't say for certain that SK does.
