|
|
I have read every jimjilbang/sauna/bath house thread I can get my hands on and I can't find the one thing I really need to know:
What are all those different scrubbing/massage/who knows what services?
I'm sure it varies from place to place, but I'm looking for a translation of the basic scrub and massage stuff that must be available everywhere.
Anybody? |

Please don't listen to the above poster. Every sauna I have been to offers a plethora of massage services. They will be administered by someone of your same sex.
Unfortunately, I am in the same boat as you. I am tempted to just point to one and see what 30k gets me, but I really would like a salt scrub. I do it myself, but I think the ajjuma would be more effective.
Bumping in hopes someone helpful will come along. ^^ |

Gee, thanks danwom! Now I know how to...um...get a massage.
And thanks, DorkothyParker for the bump! I'm with you...I can do it myself but I think I should take advantage of the ajjuma -- though not in the way that danwom is talking about.
I have considered just pointing to the list many times, but I really want my scrub. Not to be covered in blueberries, or wrapped in plastic. Just a scrub. I'm even a bit afraid of just miming, because I want to know what I'll be scrubbed *with*. I'm sure you understand. |

Why don't you just learn how to say it in Korean and ask for one? |

The massage areas at jjimjilbangs I've been in offer:
- scrubs, from foot to entire body
- massages, sometimes with oil
- masks for your face
- packages combining the above |

That is what I'm asking. How do I say in Korean for the salt scrub from an ajjuma? |

I go sometimes, I can't think offhand what all the different things they do at the jjimjilbang are, but I will jot them down and try n explain them all the next chance I get- if someone hasn't already done it by then that is... |

I finally figured it out, and Caffeinated's list was spot-on. The first one was Konglish "Session" (세신 <-- That might not be quite right.) and was just the scrubby scrub (~20,000W).
The second one was Konglish "Oil Session" or "Oil Massage" and cost ~60,000W. (This was pretty awesome. Scrub, oil massage with lots of thumping, a cucumber pack on my face, and they jumped up on the table and walked on me. Good times!)
After that was something called Konglish "Aroma" and the final one on the list, according to the ajjuma, was a combo of everything.
The ajjumas have been super nice, by the way, in every sauna I have been to. |

I don't know if this is what you were looking for but that's my knowledge of "massages" in Korea.
Bath houses on the other hand... well you pay money and wash yourself. Sometimes there is a sauna and a spa. |
While I don't doubt the information in your thread, there ARE massage shops in Seoul that are not sex related.
The places offering real massages without the happy ending outnumber the ones that do. |

BTW, I am still hoping to find out about how to ask for a salt scrub, too! I will try to ask a Korean friend... |
