Kind of related--
A week ago I took a taxi to go to Home Plus, chum dong.
The fare had reached about 3000 won, and the taxi driver stopped and asked a woman on the street where she was going.
She said E-mart, chum dong which is across the street from Home Plus.
The taxi driver let her in and proceeded to drive. I was curious to see how this would play out with the fare and everything.
The taxi driver stopped at Home Plus and expected me to pay the entire fare, which was 5,000 even though the other woman was also getting out of the taxi.
Now it's true that I would be paying 5,000 either way, but this chick gets a free ride??
I don't think so--I gave 4,000 and said that the other woman could pay the rest. I know, childish on my part maybe.
Is this common practice? The driver didn't say anything to me when she stopped for the other woman, so I wonder... |
Generally if shared, the passengers pays full fare from where they got picked up. So the lady would have been asked for her share too.
However, they will ask a Korean speaker first if they can pick up another passenger. They aren't supposed to these days, but was very common practice in the past. |

| By and large taxi drivers in Seoul are surprisingly honest. But the OP ran into a tactic they sometimes use to overcharge. They ask you directly "would you like to turn her?" knowing that this turn would then put you on the scenic route. I guess they feel justified if the passenger okays the route. |

Lol.
Cut out the flirtatious giggling rchristo, and see if there's any change.
Keep the hangbag out of sight also. |

So can what was this blurb?
What's going on with taxis during the holidays?
I'm genuinely curious. Do the cabbies get rude or try to rip people off? Why? Stress over having to work the holidays? Part-time drivers who flood the market? Trying to get more money during the holidays? |
It was actually a short story on Koreans being angry over cabbies both cheating them and also picking and choosing who'd they pick up. It was quite biased and when I saw it I wondered if there'd be a backlash because it did really make cabbies look bad. I saw two in the prior morning to my incidents. So I was wondering if there's like an unstated war against cabbies and whether I just got a bit of backlash. |

I find giggling (not really so girlish giggle) help to turn a bad situation into a less aggressive one. Works for me that's all....
....but good lord you're humorous lady. You actually got me to imagine it and I'm rofl....kakka |

All the citizens would have to do is go for 24-7 subway service and those cabbies would fall in line....
Interesting story though, thanks for sharing. Something to be aware of. |
