When I lived in Seoul 2009-2010, Everest in Dongdaemun was the business as far as Indian/Nepalese food was concerned. Now I'm back and I want to hit it up for New Year's Eve. However, considering the incredibly short life span of decent restaurants in Seoul, I have to ask, is it still the great place that it used to be?

I was there in late August and it was still excellent, although impossible to get a table.

The last two times I was there I was not impressed. One of those times featured undercooked chickpeas. I used to really like it, but haven't been back for a while following the last two disappointments. Maybe I was just unlucky and should give it another shot.

i went on christmas eve and it was...satisfactory. most of the food was overcooked and the curry had much to be desired. I was there a few times before and it was great. I think I'm gonna try another place next time.

Wow, so from 3 replies I've had excellent, disappointing and satisfactory. It's fair to say that opinion is divided!

My wife and I were just there this past week. The service was slow, but the food was excellent. I recommend the mutton masala with garlic naan.

I also like Taj Palace in Itaewon--but only for buffet.

I went to the one in Yeongdeongpo tonight and was the only person there. The thali was solid and came quickly (though, obviously, since I was the only person in there)

If you want the best Indian in the city, go to Taj at Gangnam station, but be prepared to pay for it.

That place has been around at least 10 years- no real reason to think it would have suddenly changed too much in the last one year, is there?

Business really picked up for Everest in 2006-2007. There was also a sharp decline in the quality of food around the same time. There used to be flexibility in spice, etc., and the food generally took awhile regardless of how crowded the place was because of the individual attention that was paid to each dish. I'm afraid that's no longer the case. I'm thrilled that Everest has done well, but I no longer eat there.

I ate at Everest a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty good, although not as amazing as I'd been led to believe. If you're in the Suwon area I would recommend Swoyambhu near the station. It's my favourite curry restaurant in Korea.

I've been to Everest a few times over the last few years, but I wasn't really that impressed. I've had better food at a restaurant that's on the way to Everest from Dongdaemun station.

Everyone has different preferences, but I've had better food elsewhere. My personal favourite is New Delhi, with locations in Hyehwa, Gangnam and Kyunghee University (http://indianfood.kr/). Since we're talking about Everest, a really good place for food from either side of the Himalaya (Indian, Nepali, Tibetan) is Potala in Myeongdong. The owner is from Tibet and the restaurant acts as a meeting space of sorts for activists and Buddhists.

The location is tricky, if you walk away from Suwon station with your back to it, towards the Starbucks, it's in the alley on the opposite side of the street from the KFC.
