Where in Seoul can I get really spicy Thai food. Specifically, I'm looking for Red Curry.

I've been to a couple places and the red curry on their menu is always pretty mild. Even when I tell them to make it extra extra Thai hot spicy, they never do.

Anyone know a good thai place that will cause me to sweat profusely and cry with a single bite?

There's nothing more disappointing than asking for spicy Thai or Indian food and having it simply be mild.

(Well, there's a lot of things more disappointing than that, but anyway.)

Unfortunately, I don't know of any places in Korea.

i've given up on the thai places here. not spicy no matter how much panache i use when asking for the flames of hell. not to mention not very tasty.

however, there is a place called akibo curry in gangnam that has curry in 5 different strength. if you are a truly a champ of spicy food get the 5 and hold on for as long as you can. most curry place here also can't do spicy very well, but this curry restaurant is a breath of fresh wind. i can't recommend it enough.

I've been to Coco Curry House in Gangnam and I ordered the 10 (spiciest).

It was spicy, but I found most of the spiciness to be on the front of the mouth. I ate the whole thing and only had like 2 cups of water. No sweat, but my eyes did water just a tad.

I'll check out the Akibo Curry. Is it in that alley behind CGV?

Go to an Indian restaurant in Itaewon and ask for a vindaloo or even a phal (hotter than vindaloo)

it's actually on the same street as coco curry. just keep walking down the street away from the main drag and you should see 5 ton station (pizza place) on your left, espresso public on your right, then it'll be on your left hand side a little further down.

and yes, it's on a whole different planet than coco curry house (i've had both), and easily the hottest single dish i've had in korea by orders of magnitudes.

i tip my hat to you, fellow capsaicin seeking soul. good luck.

edit: oh and let me know what you'd think. i'd love to see if it phases you.

The only restaurant in Korea that I've had anything resembling a pad thai was a pan-asian noodle place in Itaewon and PNU. Other than that, no dice from my findings

Not Thai food, but if you're looking for spicy curry, try Persian Palace, across from the entrance to Sung Kyun Gwan University (near Hyehwa). They'll make it as spicy as you want. Even their "regular" curry has a bit of a kick to it.

Friends mentioned this about Akibo. It is apparently quite spicy, indeed.

You can find a list of Thai restaurants with reviews on this site www.thealienbank.com

My favourite Thai restaurants are Wang Thai in Itaewon and Thailand II in Songtan. However, I haven't tried the red curry in either places so I'm afraid I can't help you out there.

I love the Persian Palace. I used to eat there for lunch and sometimes for dinner back when my job had me commuting to Hyehwa once a week. Nowadays, I only eat there once every 3 weeks after I get a haircut in that neighborhood.

Anyways, both the owner and his head cook are both really cool people and know me well. Further, it is a nice place to sit back and relax while eating spicy Persian curry and watching entertaining Bollywood videos.
