sadly i have my contract right here by my side and there is no Won advance for utilities from my Jamsil Hagwon. I will be provided with a furnished apartment or 400,000 won if i choose to pursue a place on my own dime.

EXpensive or not, its an adventure, money can be wired if it becomes a problem! I hope lol Thank you however, id love advice, as i'm sure mr./mrs. eventually will .

Also, take a look at your contract and see when your first pay is going to be. At Hagwons, you typically don't get paid until the month AFTER you've been working there.

So if you arrive at the beginning of March, don't expect to get paid until late in April. Though pay days vary at Hagwons the standard average seems to be more towards the middle or the end of the month. So you'll need at least a month and a half's worth of cash to get you by.

I know you said you can get money wired to you, and that's great, but I strongly suggest bringing at least $1000 USD with you.

As a newbie it's going to take you time to figure out how to live here cheaply and there are fees you are going to run into (even the medical check your school requires of you can run up to over $100 depending on what hospital they send you and most schools don't cover the cost).

Better to have the money with you than to try and sort out getting it wired to you when it starts to dry up.

Can someone do me a small favor, what are the apartments like in korea, i heard they are small, i also hear they are in tall 40 story buildings??? they build upward in asia no outward im told. mucho crowding lol

I have the address of my school but they say its still being fixed up, i wish someone could visit it.

Again apartments are something that varies. Usually they are pretty small and yes sometimes they are in very tall buildings.

It's doubtful you'll be living in one of those 40 story buildings though.

You're probably best to find answers to your questions here, in the FAQ:

After reading through there most of your questions will likely be answered.

So, is it a new school, or is it being remodeled or something? Do you know?

Where are you cfile? are you a seasoned veteran of the korean ESL world. Seoul? Busan? Incheon?

I just have to point out: famous last words. Your recruiter doesn't work for you, and regardless of how on top of things they are, they're not going to care about sticking you with a crappy school.
