So, my former principal, who transferred from the school I was working for, now wants to hire me at his new school.
This is under GEPIK, but the funding is coming from City Hall. And it seems City Hall has some stipulation that he has to use a recruiter to hire a new NET.
Has anyone ever heard of that kind of rule before? I guess if City Hall is footing the bill, they can request what they want. But just seemed strange the school couldnt hire me directly. |

I've been in this situation before (hired directly, but a recruiter brought in at the last minute). The logic the school used was that a) The recruiter could handle all the immigration issues, meaning one less hassle for the school and b)The budget covered recruiting costs anyway. The recruiter was happy because it was the easiest comission ever! |

Someone at City Hall is getting a kick back from the recruiter. |

The school doesn't need a recruiter, but the intent is to keep 3-5 Koreans employed/paid for every 1 NET. Redundancy and waste become more clear when you apply this theory. |

I am in the same situation now. The reason I was given is that all the teachers are on vacation so there is no one to handle the paperwork. The recruiter is being to handle the papers that must be filed with the city (budget), GPOE (education office) and immigration (visa). |

Thanks for your responses, everyone. Yeah, I kinda thought the legwork could be an issue, even if the school wasn't "required" to use a recruiter.
I was using a recruiter to apply for EPIK, but it looks like I'm not getting in.
Because the school I'd worked for had already been in contact with my recruiter (had to send proof of employment, letters of recommendation), they gave my former principal the recruiter's contact information.
Long story short, looks like itll work out. Recruiter seems fine with me backing out of EPIK (since they havent gotten back to me anyway) and placing me with my former principals new school. Though, I think their primary motivation was that I was considering taking this job through another recruiter, if it was really necessary to use one at all (hence this thread).
Anyway, thanks again. |
