I hate technology. That said, the other day this thing pops up and says, "Push Any Key". I have searched and searched and I can not find the "Any Key". All of the keys on my key board either have letters or numbers. Then there are also keys that have, for example, "F1-F12", "Ctrl", "Insert" "Del", etc. However, there is no "Any Key". Is there a problem with my key board and the "Any Key" was left off?

Clearly you have been duped into buying a fake computer keyboard. This is a common problem with cheap fakes as the "Any" key is particularly expensive to produce. It is used far more commonly than other keys, being requested so frequently by operating systems, thus suffers wear and tear. That's why all "Any" keys are made out of a particularly expensive synthetic material, the same type that is used for black boxes in airplanes.
If your keyboard is missing the "Any" key then I suggest you go speak to your retailer and demand they provide you with an authentic keyboard. If they refuse, or even worse, if they claim to have no idea what you're talking about, you should threaten them with police action. Or even call the police. It's the only language these vagabonds understand. |

I will get right on that. It sure would be nice to start 2012 with a key board that has the any key key. Just be one less thing that might ruin the last year of Earth's existance. |

Before I go to the store about my keyboard problem, I was curious about the F1 - F 12 keys. Are these for F-Visas? If so, I do not need an F-Visa and wanted to know if I could have them switch one of the F-Visa keys for an any key key?

Chicken...you might also request that in lieu of one of the other F Visa keys...you might try an F Mastercard or F AmericanExpress key...useful in emergencies...not unlike the anykey. |

The problem you are experiencing is a common one. Its usually diagnosed as PEBKAC.
I've worked on a lot of computers for people who are experiencing PEBKAC. Its expensive though, I usually charge $100-$150 an hour. |

I may need to hire you for this. The guy at the computer store said he can not do anything until I have an original notorized copy of my key board with an apostille. |

Unfortunately, I am not sure if he is experiencing PEBKAC...and this is no PICNIC either.
I thought this was going to be a PICNIC, but if notorizing and apostilles are required...you can trust me...that ain't no PICNIC. |

But that is just a TV show, not real life like my situation. Besides, the computer started to work and he had not yet pushed the any key key (which he could not because his key board, just as mine, is missing the any key key). I think I will write my congress person about this.

| On a number of keyboards in Korea, English keyboards suffer from "Konglish" where the letters are incorrect. A common error is where the "Any" key is misspelled as "Alt". Next time, try the "Alt" key and it should work. |

There are 2 times it is most common that I get the pop-up that says to push any key. One is when I turn on the computer. Well, as in the "clip" about turn it off and back on, when I do this it works. So, no real problem there. It just means it will take a little extra time to get my computer working because I have to do three steps. 1. Turn on computer, 2. Turn it off, and 3. Turn it back on again.
The other time it happens is when I am in the middle of doing something (e.g., reading something, doing email, posting on a message board, using word processing). What happens is it freezes and, once again, I have to turn it off and back on again. And, that being the first time it has been turned off after I got it working, up comes the pop-up that says push any key. So I have to turn it back off and then on again. Not only does that take too much time, but if I am doing email, all is lost and I have to start my work over again. And when I am posting on a message board (I am a member of several, not just Dave's) and then my computer freezes and the pop-up says push any key, and I can't because I do not have an any key key, and when I turn off the computer it posts my message although it is not yet ready to send.
It froze again a few hours ago when I was in the middle of writing an email to my congressperson about how to get a notarized copy of my keyboard with an apostle and the push any key popped up. I did as you said an pushed the "ALT" key. It crashed and then I had to go through that on and off and back on again thing. ...is...well...I'm not sure which apostle you will get, but having an employee of Christ working for you might be part of the reason. |
