I have a Kindle 3, but it has always had a problem holding the charge. I thought this was a battery problem, but I've just replaced the battery, and there is no difference. After you have charged the kindle, it holds the charge for about 24 hours, with the wifi off, and whether or not you use it for reading.

I think I will replace it with a sony ebook reader, or possibly a new kindle. It comes with amazon's brown leather case, which cost 31 pounds from the UK website - or about $50, I guess.

I thought someone who's into electronics might be interested in fixing this. Not sure why it's not holding the charge - as I said, don't think it's a battery problem. I've still got the old battery and the tools for changing it, if you want them too.

The kindle didn't come with a mains supply charger - because I ordered from the UK, and shipped to Korea - had to pay quite a bit of tax for that - but it does have a lead to charge from USB.

Any offers, please PM me.

it could be a problem compiling the books you've loaded on it. Kindles build search libraries of every new book you load onto them. Certain files can be corrupted and this throws the kindle into a loop where it continually tries to scan the text and is unable to.

to check if this is happening to your kindle from the main book list screen use the menu - search function and search for a mash of letters; asf;dhvd;vnrp for example. Do not search for qwerty, that doesn't work.

After your search is complete it should say "no matches" or something similar. If there are any books listed, then they are probably corrupt and causing you kindle to process them indefinitely. Delete them for your kindle, reload them if you wish, give it some time to compile and then try the search function again.

This happened to me on some files from the Gutenberg press. Same thing as you, battery lost charge quickly. Deleted them and prob solved.

thanks for the tip, destroyer. I couldn't find any corrupted files using the method you used, but I've tried deleting everything, so hopefully that might do the trick.

bump: this kindle is still for sale. largo - I'll email you.

I replaced the battery, and deleted all the files by formatting the drive, as suggested. It holds the charge a little better now - you can use it, but you have to keep plugging it into your computer to recharge.

Any offers please let me know, by pm, or email:
