Went to immigration to re-new my F-2 visa. The officer stated as of January 2012 there is no longer going to be an F-2 visa. It is now going to be called an F-6.
An additional note: All foreigners when getting an ARC, no matter what class (E2, F-5, F-6) will now be fingerprinted. I was required to submit my prints today. Not happy about it. But hey what can you do. |

Close, but exactly correct... There will no longer be an F-2 visa for marriage immigrants. The F-2 can still be obtained by other methods. |

Any foreigner who enters Korea will now be fingerprinted at the airport starting this year, too. |

Printing is not new. It was a regular practice for all registered foreigners up until about 2004. It was discontinued for 6 years and they started printing and taking digital photos of people again last year.
And yes, the F2-1 has changed to the F6 to differentiate those who acquired their visa by marriage from those who acquired it by merit.

I got a notice in the mail about a month and a half ago telling me I have 3 months to go to immigration to get fingerprinted. That's a whole day wasted for me since the closest immigration office is at the opposite extreme of the province where I reside.
Count yourselves lucky if you haven't received a notice yet. |

You enjoy going to Immigration?
In any case, the letter I received is a form letter. I (we) have until March 31 to get fingerprinted. |

Can you get fingerprinted at immigration? When my friend had to get fingerprinted, she was sent to the police station... I'm in Daegu and haven't received a notice... |

whats up with getting fingerprinted at the airport? I had to get them done there as well. Didn't we already have to provide a CBC? |

Don't like it, blame the Americans - they started it.
Korea (along with Japan and others) are just returning the favor that America blessed the world with first - digital prints and photo of every foreigner entering the country every time they enter and again when they register as a foreign resident (just like getting your green card but much less invasive).

I have yet to be printed, or recieve a letter requiring me to do so.
I do have my visa renewal coming up this summer, so I'm expecting to be printed when I go to take care of that. |
